President Ruggles broke tradition said we were going to have to sing at every meeting.  After the groaning died down, she made us sing part of the song Imagine.

 

Eventually, she rang the bell and got the meeting going.  We had our largest crowd ever for a meeting at the Spaghetti Factory as we had a slew of Rotary dignitaries present to hear RI Directory Vicky Puliz. 

 

Peggy Porter Honeyman and Dave Jones presented President Amy with her mascot for the year, an Armadillo.  I am not clear what an Armadillo had to do with Amy being a lawyer, but I guess it will become clearer as the year progresses. 

 

Starting next week, we are going to reinstitute the raffle at the club meetings.  Everyone in attendance will receive one ticket.  An additional ticket will be given for each can of food that is brought to a meeting.  Dick Hall and Alana Matthews can get additional tickets next week because the brought food to this meeting.  Tickets can be purchased for $1 per ticket or 7 tickets for $5.   Amy has not determined what the prize will be for the raffle.

 

Community service director Dave Jones announced some upcoming service projects.   Next Wednesday, July 27 from 10-2 and Saturday, August 27, from 10-2 we will help the River City Food Bank.   Contact Dave for more information.

 

In November, we will do a cleanup of the grounds at the Oak Park Rotary House.   The exact date will be determined.

 

The district Foundation dinner will be on September 17.   Bob Deering is getting a head count so we can reserve some tables.  It is always an enjoyable and inspiring dinner.  Cost is $70/person

 

RI Director Vicky Puliz was our speaker.  Vicky rarely can attend club meetings, so we were very fortunate that PDG Sandy Sava was able to reach out to Vicky.   Vicky is from Sparks, NV.

 

Vicky gave us an update on why she is a Rotarian and how this led to her being one of 17 RI Directors (5 are from North America).   She is proud that Rotarians are making a change in the world.   This past year Rotarians donated $15 million for disaster relief in Ukraine.  There are a total of 150 grants that have been identified for this relief.
