Tax and Accounting Minute: Trump is on trial for inflating his assets on financial statements. There are three types of Audits, and Trumps financials used #3. It’s amazing the bankers would give him any loans based on a compilation audit. #1 is positive assurance that the financials are fairly stated. #2 is negative assurance that nothing odd comes to the attention of the auditor. #3 is a statement that the CPA compiled the financials and does not give any assurance.

- Chris Deering had us cheering - our St. Francis Interact Club is official today.
- Jim Fritzsche shared news about our service with the Children’s Receiving Home. Last Friday we took the children to Scandia. In November we’ll go to Round Table with them. December’s Christmas party at a Mexican Restaurant will include games and some backpacks filled with gifts.
- Amy Ruggles reported that George Gomes traveled 400 miles to deliver 1,000 pounds of pumpkins to the North Highlands Community Center. These 300 pumpkins were well received by the children there. The farmer Perry & Sons declined our payment. So generous.
- The CSUS Tailgate Party will be next week Saturday, 10/28 in Lot 7 from 2:00-5:30 and Lewie Donhost will bring his RV.
- Tim Hayes tells us that 367 poinsettias have been pre-ordered, and we need 500 ordered in total. That’s 133 more ordered within the next three weeks please.
- Jim Fritzsche reminds us that our Christmas Party will be December 16th at the Watsons, and St. Francis Interact Club will set up, take down, and serve.

Speaker Today: Dan Walters of CalMatters spoke about the shift in state politics toward the left, and how ironic the timing is that at the same time, the Governor has changed his tune from his progressive campaign promises to a more conservative stance. He veto’d 15% of the 1,000 bills that were on his desk with an October 14th deadline. In the 1970s, Republicans made up half of the registered voters in California, but now in 2023, Democrats have a “super-duper” majority of more than 75% representation. This would seem the natural time for socialist laws to be put into effect, especially since the Governor told the public last year that we had a surplus of $100 billion available. When it was realized that the federal pandemic supports were ending, and we were really at a deficit of $19 billion over our budget, those bills didn’t have any traction. Also, if the Governor aspires to the presidency, he will need to be more centrist to get national voters to choose him, and it will be important for his campaign to leave the state in a healthier economic situation. Mr. Walters shared some statistics: Healthcare is 8x bigger than agriculture in our state budget. Healthcare is 4-5x bigger than education, which is second largest in our state budget. California pays healthcare for half of the population, and 1/3 of the population is on Medi-Cal.
