News: June 22nd is the American River Parkway Cleanup. Our Demotion party will be June 29th at Northridge Country Club. Save the date! Keith McBride is our Polio Plus Warrior. He encourages us to join the PolioPlus Society of District 5180 by committing to donate $100 or more per year until the World Health Organization certifies that polio has been fully eradicated + 3 years to be sure. Donated money will be matched. The flier is attached as a photo below.

Carmichael has been a club for 76 years. They offer a Jim Thompson Fellow award, honoring their beloved lifelong member. In their membership they've had a lot of construction folks, firefighters, and pilots. Their long-term fundraisers are the Crab Feed (Dick Bauer), which benefits the Club Foundation, and a golf tournament for Easter Seals (Jay Sedlak) in conjunction with Pacific Coast Builders. Carmichael has had a member on the Easter Seals board for many years. Traditional service projects include 1) work with Soil Born Farms (George Abraham) where they planted 100 citrus trees and built a large chicken coop, 2) Christmas Baskets with Del Dayo and Del Campo using the Carmichael Water District warehouses for the collection and assembly, 3) Special Olympics athletic gear (Bill Baxter & Karen Munsterman), 4) Rotoplast (Stan Roe) where teams of doctors do cleft lip repair. The club provides meals, transport, and housing, 5) building wells in Uganda (Richard Olebe)- 5 wells for 10,000 people which resulted in 57% reduction in illness and freedom for girls to attend school and women to use their time productively elsewhere, 6) District dictionary project, 7) RYLA, 8) Rotary Youth Exchange, 9) Sister Clubs in Germany, England, and currently Portugal, 10) Effie Yeaw projects, and 11) Carmichael Park. What an amazing club!
East Sac Rotary has been chartered since 1965 when five Sac State professors created the club. Our membership produced 5 District Governors and 4 Youth Study Exchange Trips. Beloved members include Jim Vaughter, Merrill Rogers, George Lionakis, Matt Campbell, Chick Alexander, Al Robbie a dentist with the Flying Sams who offered dental services in San Quintín Baja California for 12 years, Bob Jennings, and ongoing members Chris Alexander Deering, Lewie Donhost who has been president many times, and Jack Kimmell, our youngest president when he was 37, and our longest tenured member. We love service projects. One year we did 42! We created Independence Field in Meadowview with the RiverCats. Tim Hayes and Kevin Wilcox were the engineer and architect for a field accessible to the handicapped. We partnered with Sacramento Neighborhood Housing to paint houses for the needy, updating 25 houses, and spearheading Project Facelift with 150 helpers including 40 Rotarians over a 5-block area. ESR created a drug awareness program with Lee McElroy of Sac State, combining 3 teens that had been through rehab and 3 teens from CYA. They traveled to Jr High and Sr High schools to testify about staying off drugs. We partner with the Salvation Army to ring the bell at Christmas and we're improving their playground. And at Tahoe Elementary (Carroll Dudley) we've built a greenhouse and teaching garden.
