Happy dollars:  Fundmaster Laura was back in action.  All the men got hit up for $5 because of International Women’s Day.  Can’t wait for International Men’s day when we can get even.   The Sac State grads got hit for $5 because the women’s basketball team is doing well.   Laura also got Jim Shaw for $5 because he showed up.  

 

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Marsha Vacca, Randy Smith and George Gomes.

 

Beer Bike:  On March 25, from 2-4pm, we will be riding the beer bike in mid-town.  Cost will be $45 per person.  Only 6 have signed up so far and the bike holds 15.  Let Chris Deering know if you want to participate. 

 

Shelter Box:  Amethyst’s four pups got named.  They are Hosini, Ralph, Rex and Eenie.  All of the funds raised are going to shelter box.  The final numbers aren’t in but it appears that we will be able to fund at least 3 boxes ($1,000 each)  

 

St. Patrick’s Day:  Although President Amy says it is St. Patty’s day, we Irish know it is known as St. Paddy’s day.  Amy has a lot of fun planned.  I suggest you follow her advice and wear green next week.

 

Sunshine Report:  Chris Deering was popular since it was Sunshine report time.  Chris always brings us treats.  This time it was cookies.  We celebrated Kim Walker’s and Bill Watson’s birthdays.    Carrol Dudley announced that he has now been cancer free for 2 years. 

 

Arden Arcade: Richard Gore, president-elect of the Arden Arcade club announced they are having their fundraiser on March 25.  It will be a Texas hold’em poker tournament.  

 

PETS:  PE Jim Fritzsche spent the weekend in San Jose at the PETS conference (President Elect Training Seminar).  Jim says to expect more collaboration with other clubs doing service projects.

 

Vivien Thomas:  Hanns Haesslein, was not at the meeting last month, but he still wanted to honor black history month by suggesting we go to YouTube and looking up Vivien Thomas.  Vivien was a janitor who went on to become a pioneer in heart surgery.  

 

 

Speaker for the day: Liz Godfrey told us about the work of Rebuilding Together Sacramento.  They work with community organization to preserve affordable housing, increase homeowner independence, and lower energy consumption for low income, seniors and vets.  They have fixed safety issues in homes, added ramps and smoke detectors.  Come of the critical repairs include HVAC repairs, new roofs and water heaters.   We will be looking to team up with them for community service projects in Sacramento.
