Club Bulletin
February 22, 2023

Guests:  Bob’s guest Sawan Vaden joined us at the meeting.

Happy dollars:  Hanns went to Hawaii and was supposed to give us an update but he got ill and avoided being recognized.  We will catch up with him next week.

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Marsha Vacca, Randy Smith and George Gomes.

Tree Planting:  The Oak Park Rotary house has had 3 trees delivered that need to be planted.  We are joining some of the other clubs, Saturday at 9:00, to plant the trees.  All are welcome.  The house is at 4070 2nd Ave.  It is a few blocks from the UCD Med Center.

Axe Throwing:  Axe Throwing on Friday, February 24 at 6:00 PM.  Contact Chris Deering if you have questions.

Beer Bike:  On March 25, from 2-4pm, we will be riding the beer bike in mid-town.  Cost will be $45 per person.

Shelter Box:  As a result of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, RI is asking us to step up and provide help.  The club wants to support this effort by donating to Shelter Box.  We were going to do it this week, but with Hanns being sick, we have postponed it for one week.

Dictionaries:  Carrol Dudley led a team that donated dictionaries to the 3rd grade students at Tahoe Elementary.  Joining Carrol, were Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Lewie Donhost and Tim Hayes

Fund Raiser:  Planning continues for the fund raiser on June 3 at Minor Leap Winery.  It will be a no cash fund raiser.  All money will be done through PayBee.  We need to start collecting items for the silent auction. The auction will be the biggest area for our club to raise funds for next year’s projects.

Speech Contest:  Despite the hard work of George Gomes, we were not able to get any schools to participate in this year’s speech contest.  George has instead lined up a speaker, Jim Morris, to give us an update on farming.

Speaker for the day:  LaKenya Jordan, the Deputy Secretary of State for California was our speaker.  She heads up the policy, planning and implementation division.  They are actively trying to give voters more ways to vote and more days.   Voter engagement is a big push.
