4-way Test recited
Thought of the Day by Jim Fritzsche. George Bernard Shaw said, "I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."
Introductions - No visitors this week. Bill Loscotoff, David Jones, and Charlie Rea were on Zoom.
Tax & Accounting Minute:  Jim Fritzsche showed the Balance Sheet of the March of Dimes, and the huge debt in the Liabilities section, $77 million in pension debt promised to administrators. A bad Balance Sheet. A good Balance Sheet is the ALS financial statement, with $98 million in Assets, $91 million in Equity, and only $7 million in Liabilities. The ALS has a 4-star top rating.
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Allison Hamaker put an X in Jim Fritzsche's name in the last two bulletins. $10 fine.
Wisdom of Tim: Come to the Carmichael BBQ next Tuesday evening. The event should last until 8:00 p.m.
News: 1) The Board met with our District Governor Sidney Smith last night for dinner. Sidney shared his vision and gave us feedback. He said we were doing great. We shared our marketing plan which will be presented next week when DG Smith comes to be with us in our Wednesday meeting. 2) The ALS Walk is a week from Saturday in Elk Grove. 3) Poinsettias will be for sale this holiday season.
Happy Dollars: 1) Lewie was happy to see Carolyn Curtis here. 2) Bob was happy that he and Chris celebrated their 13th anniversary yesterday. 3) Jim Fritzsche's son took a new job at Gilbert CPA, and today is his first day.
Bellringers: Kevin Wilcox, Don Brodeur, Randy Smith, Bob Deering, Jack Kimmel, Tim Hayes, Dave Jones.
Speaker: Our club member Carolyn Curtis talked about her "Excellent Adventure" of recovering from Multiple Myeloma Cancer. This cancer makes plasma cells proliferate, leaving little to no room for other cells in the blood. She was diagnosed in 2013 and went through six different therapies before qualifying for the special treatment available only at Stanford and USF in Northern California. A machine separated the t-cells from her blood, then those t-cells were genetically modified to go after her cancer. After two weeks, these t-cells were infused into her veins. This is Carolyn's 10th year fighting the Myeloma Cancer; after a check of the cells in her hip bone, she has been found to have no cancer left. Carolyn advised us to be willing to start again at life, no matter what our challenges are. Her motto is: adapt, adapt, adapt. During her time overcoming cancer, Carolyn wrote a curriculum on overcoming trauma. We were honored to have her come speak to us.
