July 19, 2023

Guest:  Don Cotton recently “retired” from the club.  As a result, he was attending the first time as an honorary member.

Board: Tonight will be the first board meeting of the new year.  President Jim introduced his board.

Vice President:          Amy Ruggles
President Elect:         Tim Hayes
Secretary:                 Allison Hamaker
Treasurer:                 Bob Deering
Services Chair:          David Jones
Legal:                       Keith McBride
Membership:             Sandi Sava
Foundation:               Randy Smith
Executive Secretary:  Kim Walker

Tax and Accounting Minute:  After a joke about debits and the left and credits on the right President Jim gave us a history lesson on how the concept of dual entry versus single entry got started.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished:  President Jim recognized Tim Hayes for doing the bulletin last year and the 1st two meetings this year.  Last week Tim forgot his laptop at the meeting and Jim had to wait in the hot parking lot while Tim went back to retrieve it.  Tim was fined $10 but decided since it was also his wedding anniversary that he would instead ring the bell.

Happy Dollars:  A lot of bells were rung today.  Don Brodeur just got back from Europe.  He became a bell ringer.  This was followed by Randy Smith who was happy since the demotion was over.  Bob Deering rang the bell in celebration of his daughter being on the Board of Directors for the State Structural Engineering association.   Marsha Vacca was happy that her daughter in Texas just started working for Deloitte and one of her customers is the State of California.  As a result, her daughter will need to make regular trips to Sacramento.

Bell Ringers for 23-24 year:  Kevin Wilcox, Don Brodeur, Randy Smith, Bob Deering and Tim Hayes.

Day at the races:  On Sunday, July 30, we will go to the State Fair and watch the horse races.  We are to meet at the entrance to the track at 3:00 PM.   After a few races, we will go out and eat fair food in the food market.

Cristo Rey:  Cristo Rey High School mock interviews were a success.  6 Rotarians helped out with the interviews; Bob Deering, Hanns Haesslein, Bill Loscotoff, Maria Mengotti, Keith McBride and Tim Hayes.  Bob and Tim also met with the new president of the school, Father Chris Calderon to discuss future service opportunities with the school.  They are very interested in creating an Interact club.

Rotary House:  We are scheduled to do the outside cleanup at the Rotary House on Saturday, July 29 at 9:00 AM.   The address is 4070 2nd Avenue.  This is a few blocks from the UCD Medical Center.   There is a lot of weeding that needs to be done at the home.

Children’s Receiving Home:  The children from the receiving home will join us for lunch at the August 2 meeting.  The following month we have purchased passes for 16 of them to spend a day at 6 Flags Discovery Park in Vallejo.

Speaker:  Mike Pereira, Fox Sports on NFL Football and B2B, was our scheduled speaker but he has a herniated disk and can hardly walk.  He is going to be rescheduled for a later date.

Raffle:  Carrol Dudley missed the meeting, so we finally had a different winner.  Bob Deering won but our president forgot to bring the prize.  Maybe next week he will get something.
