We celebrated our last meeting of 2022 with a Christmas contest. President Amy gave a series of questions to see who knew the most about the movie “A Christmas Story”. The winners were George Gomes and Tim Hayes.
After ringing the bell, we introduced our visitors and guests. Becky Donhost and Paula Smith joined their husbands for the meeting. Dr. Rick Chang, from the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks, was there as the speaker. Also speaking was Cathy Levering.
Our Funmaster wasn’t there so Amy asked if anyone was happy. A few, including Rick Change, filled the pot. The big donation was from Keith McBride. Keith was celebrating the 39th anniversary of his 39th birthday. Keith joined our bell ringing group.
Bell Ringers for 22-23 year: John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering and Keith McBride.
Foundation Chair Bob Deering passed out 2 Paul Harris fellow pins. Both President Amy and Don Brodeur received their +2 pins.
President Amy thanked Bill Watson for the wonderful Christmas party. Bill was struggling to remember the party, but Kelly told him he had a great time.
Community Services chair, Dave Jones, reminded us of our January projects. We are still accepting diapers for the ARC diaper drive. Women’s Empowerment is looking for used professional dress for their clients. This month we will also be doing a cleanup at the YWCA and will work a Saturday at the River City Food Bank. Dave needs to finalize the dates.
Club Service chair, Chris Deering, is looking for a member to volunteer their home for a Firepit on January 27th. Please let Chris know if you can help.
George Gomes and Amy worked at the pancake breakfast for the North Highland Park and Rec’s Breakfast with Santa. The Foothill-Highlands club co-sponsored this with us.
Bill Watson reminded us that the Salvation Army Bell Ringing is this Saturday. Bill will take checks directly. If you put a check in the bucket, please let Bill know.
Our speakers were with the Sacramento District Dental Society. Cathy Levering is the Executive Director and Dr. Rick Chang is one of the volunteer dentists. Rick is known to our club because he volunteered on the San Joaquin dental facility that we built in Mexico.
One of the problems with services for the poor is that the government won’t pay for crowns, they will only fill teeth or pull them. The society help underserved and uninsured families and veterans with free dental care. Their Smiles for Kids program screen children for dental needs and provides dental education to thousands of children.
