The annual tailgate party at Sac State homecoming is October 29^th.  It will be from 2-6pm.  The game, which starts at 6:00, is optional

 

This Saturday, October 12, we will be serving food at the River City Food Bank on Edison Ave in Arden Arcade from 10am-2pm.   Dave Jones needs 12 volunteers.  So far, we only have 9 signed up.  If you can help, please contact Dave. 

 

St. Francis High School wants to start an Interact club.   We have volunteered to be the host club.  Chris Deering and Carrol Dudley and going to be the club representatives. 

District Foundation chair, Joe Scheimer, announced World Polio Day on October 24.  This year there have been 23 cases of the wild virus, including one in New York.  This is a big increase.  Joe is challenging our club to donate $7,000 to the Rotary Foundation for Polio.   Carrol Dudley committed $1,500 to the cause.  You can donate by giving Bob Deering a check or you can donate at https://raise.rotary.org/Joe-Scheimer/challenge1

 

We had 12 kids show up for dinner and charades on Friday.  All had a great time.

 

 

Marlin Williams, a senior at Sacramento High School, told us about his experience as a RYLA camper this past summer.

 

Amethyst joined Allison and Ray on a trip to Seattle.  Amethyst met the Hamaker’s family and visited John Brown’s estate in Sequim.  Allison bribed President Amy with some cherries to avoid the wrath of funds master Laura

 

President-elect Jim Fritzsche spoke again about the club selling poinsettias.   The cost will be $25 for two 6” pots.   Ordering will begin in a few weeks.  It’s time to start asking friends and neighbors if they might want some for Christmas.

 

On November 2, we are going to have a special lunch meeting at the K9 facility at McClellan Park.   This will be the dedication of the new fence project.  The police officers are going to be BBQing lunch for us and telling us about the facility.   

 

No new bell ringers but there were a few hits to the members.  Tim Hayes got recognized for being on TV.  We are not sure the logic, but Jim Fritzsche got fined $1 for going to Orlando and not attending a Rotary meeting while Lamond got fined $5 for going to Uganda and attending a Rotary meeting.

Betsy Gade gave us an update on membership.  On October 22, there will be a get together for coffee at Bella Bru on Fair Oaks at 9am.  This is intended to give new members a chance to ask questions about the club, but all are welcome

 

Betsy said that not only do we need to grow the club, but we also need care and feed the needs of our members.  One way is through social events, so on November 19, we will have a bowling event at the Country Club Lanes. 

 

Dave Jones announced some of the upcoming service events.  This Saturday we are at the food bank.  On November 12, we will be doing the Oak Park Rotary House clean-up.  Later in the year we will have a clothing drive for Women’s Empowerment and we will be donating diapers to American River College students.  Kipp Johnson is working with St. John’s Program for Change on a painting and flooring project. 

 

Hanns Haesslein reviewed many of the potential international service projects that his team is investigating.  A final project(s) has not been finalized.
