George Gomes started our Flag Day meeting with the pledge.   

 

Guests: We had 2 potential new members visit us this week.  Marsha Vacca brought her friend David and Bob Deering and Carrol Dudley brought Edna.  

 

Happy dollars:  We saw a video from News13 about 2 women who were born 40 years ago weighing around 1.6 lbs. The video highlighted the leading-edge work of the Neonatologist who delivered the babys.  It was our own Hanns Haesslein.  Hanns was so honored that he donated $100, even though he was already a bell ringer.

Fundraiser:  We netted over $15,000 from our Delta Nights fundraiser.   Part of the success was a result of our silent auction.  Thank you to the following Rotarians who brought in items to be auctioned; Jim Fritzsche, Sean Safholm, Don Brodeur, Tim Hayes, Chris and Bob Deering, Dave Jones, Peggy Porter, Bill Watson, Sandi Sava, Kim and Bud Walker, Hanns Haesslein, Amy Ruggles, Lewie Donhost, Randy Smith, Allison Hamaker and George Gomes.

 

RYLA:  The club paid for 4 students to attend RYLA this year.  2 students had to drop out so we have 2 spots that have been paid for but don’t have anyone to attend.  If you know if any junior or senior year high school students that might want to attend, let George Gomes know.  The 2 upcoming sessions are the last 2 weeks of the year.  

 

Demotion:  President Amy’s demotion will be on June 24 at Del Paso Country Club.  Past President Randy Smith has promised an outstanding night of food, wine and music.   Randy needs to give Del Paso a head count so please let Randy know if you can attend. 

 

Speaker:  Lewie Donhost was joined by Fred Rowe from the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks to talk about Rotary Action Groups and Rotary Fellowship groups.  Just as they were beginning the power went out in the restaurant.  Despite this they both gave us a great presentation.

 

 

Fred talked about the action groups.   There are 26 action groups.  We all know about RAGAS (Rotary Action Group Against Slavery), Bob Deering’s group to combat human slavery.  The action groups consist of experts in a topic that help clubs and districts in planning a project.

 

 

Lewie talked about the fellowship groups.  Lewie heads up the RV fellowship in the US.  There are 102 different fellowship groups.  You can see the list on the RI website.
