Taco Wednesday, aka Cinco de Mayo celebration.  Tacos and burritos were the menu for the day, chips and salsa, guacamole, chorizos – the who tamale!!!  Thanks OSF for making this happen.

 

Meeting called to order.  Even without technology, Prez Amy managed to get us to sing using the recording on her cell phone.  At least with the Club speakers, our voices are drowned out a bit! Pledge led by Jim Shaw, followed by the 4-Way Test.

 

Happy Dollars:  Laura was back! She did not have a list of targets!  Instead, all who were not Bell Ringers were tagged for $5.  Kevin Wilcox made a donation in memory of Clayton Rice, a member from back when who just passed away.

 

Club Social:  Jim Shaw led the praises to Bill & Kelly Watson for our Social last Saturday night.  Was a really fun evening.  Amy properly acknowledged her commitment to come as an Armadillo and to eat Armadillo food.  Bill & Hanns were kind to her, feeding her Escargot (not sure that is really Armadillo food????)  Good time was had by all!  Prez Amy made a $50 donation to the ESR Foundation to show her thanks to the Watson’s for hosting.

Speaker: Allison introduced Heather Bennett, Principal of Tahoe Elementary.  Heather is in her first year as Principal.  She started with a big thanks to ESR for their loyal support over the years – The Greenhouse, Book Buddies, and many other activities.  Tahoe Elementary has a student population of about 300 students, with a maximum of 400 ish.  They were deeply affected by the COVID shutdown and are trying hard to recover.  They have new murals which have boosted moral, music program is back one day a week.  Their recent Jog-a-Thon raised $17,000!  Their library is being refurbished, bookshelves and walls painted, including murals.  They are wanting for a Library Part-Time Clerk to help keep the library organized and accessable.  There are now art programs thanks to volunteers. And new kilns are being installed for ceramic classes. They are very anxious for us to complete repairs to the Greenhouse.  They have a neighborhood garden on property, and that group is working with the students utilizing the greenhouse.  Replanting has started.

 

They are working hard to improve their image and to attract more students.  The above improvements are helping.  The pandemic severely affected their student social skill, so a new class has formed to help in that area.   

 

They would appreciate help from ESR to complete the greenhouse repairs, restart the Book Buddies program, continue the Dictionary program, donate Library books.
