Firepit social:  Firepits are back.  Friday, Marsha Vacca’s will be hosting.  It will begin at 5:30 and go until Marsha kicks us out.  It is a potluck.  An email was sent out with Marsha’s home address

 

Happy dollars:  After no one being happy last week, the mood of the club was much brighter today.  President Amy had a field day collecting money from many of our club members.  Sean Safholm was a big contributor by having to pay for winning a trip to Hawaii.  He did get off a little bit because Amy did not charge him for his new badge.  There were no new bell ringers

 

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride and George Gomes.

 

Polio Plus: District Foundation chair Joe Schiemer presented Randy Smith and Chris Deering a End Polio Now certificate for our efforts last year. 

 

Rotary Day of Work: Community services chair Dave Jones announced that as part of Rotary Day of Work on April 15^th, we will be working at the River City Food Bank in Arden Arcade.  This is in addition to the 2 previous dates announced earlier.  On February 16, we will be at the mid-town location from 10am-2pm.   On March 18, we will be at the Arden-Arcade location.  

 

Women’s Empowerment:  Dave filled his vehicle with clothes for clothing drive for Women’s Empowerment.  Please bring you used professional clothing for this drive. 

 

Speech Contest:  Youth service chair, George Gomes, is still looking for volunteers for the speech contest on March 1.  He needs Rotarians to judge the contest.  Let George know if you are interested in helping.

 

Meal Cost:  Beginning next meeting, the cost of our lunches will increase to $25 per meal.   If you give $30, you can get 7 tickets for the drawing that is not a raffle.  Amy promises that the gifts to be won will be increasing in value.

 

Speaker of the Day:  Sacramento City Councilmember, Katie Valenzuela was our speaker.  Due to redistricting, Katie is not responsible for East Sacramento.  Much of Katie’s talk was about homelessness and what is being done to help.  As they get people off the streets, there are many more that are becoming homeless so the number of those unhoused are increasing.   The cost of housing is increasing so many who have incomes cannot get housing.
