It is hard to believe that this was the last meeting for President Amy.  What a great year.

 

Happy dollars:  Fundsmaster Laura Pajek was back at work.  She was able to squeeze out the last few dollars to make most of the members bell ringers.  Laura just got back from rafting the Snake River and playing 5 rounds of golf at Pinehurst.  She paid $30 to become a bell ringer.  Joining her as new bell ringers were Tim Hayes, Kipp Johnson, Bud Walker, Jerry Wright and Jim Fritzsche.  Kim Walker, already a bell ringer, gave $20 as thanks for Amy’s year.

Demotion:  President Amy’s demotion will be this Saturday, June 24 at Del Paso Country Club. 

 

Children’s Receiving Home:  PE Jim announced that next week there will be a pool party for the children and next month we are taking the kids to Six Flags in Vallejo.  

 

Games: As part of Amy’s last meeting, we got to play charades.  With this month being Rotary’s Fellowship month, the theme of each participant was one of the fellowship groups.  Soon to be President Jim stated it off by getting the club to correctly guess railroad.  He was followed by Jerry Wright whose word was attorney, Don Brodeur had magician, Hanns Haesslein had sailing, Kim Walker had bird watching and Chris Deering had scuba diving.  They only word the club could not guess was when Jim tried again with single.

 

Speaker:  Our scheduled speaker could not make it, so Allison Hamaker stepped up at the last minute and gave a great presentation on her family experience as farmers.  Although her grandparents had a farm, Allison was raised in Sacramento and enjoyed gardening, but she and Ray bought a 40-acre farm in San Andreas named Leas of Lychten.  The land had not been farmed in 10 years so everything was overgrown.  Allison found out that there was a demand for a specific heirloom variety of garlic, so they decided to clear and prepare a few acres and planted garlic.  They were able to sell their crop each year.  We learned a lot about the efforts they had to go to make it successful.   Unfortunately, they had to sell the land and move back to Sacramento to care for a sick relative.
