I must apologize; I was so busy helping with Delta Nights that I forgot to do last week’s bulletin.  This week’s bulletin will cover both weeks.  

 

Somehow President Amy agreed to allow Randy Smith to collect $5 from everyone so that we didn’t have to sing.  Amy ended up singing solo.  She told Randy that we will not do this again.  This week we were all back singing.   

 

You would think that by now, Amy has the start of the meeting well under control.  But not this week.  She decided to introduce the visiting guests and Rotarians before she rang the bell or did the pledge.   Maybe she needs to be President another year so she gets the hang of it.  

 

May 31 Guests: Even though he technically isn’t a guest, our own Karl Dinse made a visit from Florida.  He was in town to celebrate his grandkid's graduation from high school.  

 

Paula Smith and her dad Clark showed up to hear Lew Wahl speak.

 

June 7 Guests:  Linda Grenz, President of the Clarksburg Rotary Club.   Past DG Glen Fong brought a potential new member, Shonna Shearson.  Shonna just moved here from Bakersfield.  She is the President and CEO of First Community Credit Union. 

 

Happy dollars:  Last week, Dick Hall and Lewie Donhost had to pitch in $5 each, just because.  Bill Loscotoff paid $10 and Karl paid $20.   

 

This week, those who didn’t go to Delta Nights, got hit for $2.   Bob got recognized for being at the RI convention.  However, he explained that he was working the whole time at the RAGAS booth (Rotary Action Group Against Slavery).  He bribed Amy by getting her a RAGAS cape.  Maria brought Ralph home and brought a gift for Amy but only after Amy had fined her $2 for attending the conference.   George Gomes paid $100 as his grandson was name the most outstanding offensive soccer player in his high school league. 

 

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  Kevin Wilcox, Chris Deering, David Jones, John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Marsha Vacca, Randy Smith, Sandi Sava and George Gomes.

 

Vocational Recognition:  Bob Deering presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Sargent Aaron Thompson for his work with the Sacramento Police K9 group.

  

Public Service Award:  Amy thanked Marsha Vacca for her efforts to keep ESR in the media by presenting her with the Public Service award.

 

Delta Nights:  Bob Deering thanked the club for supporting the Delta Nights fundraiser.  Finally numbers are still being tabulated, but we should net over $13,000 from the event.  

 

May 31 Speaker: Lew Wahl was the youth services director for our club for 9 years.  2 of those years he was a counselor for Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, RYLA.  RLYA is for those who are starting their senior year in high school and is a one-week leadership camp.  The have 100 students for each of the 3 weekly camps.  

 

June 7 Speaker:  Darryl Schmidt, CEO of the Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, gave a presentation on the work of the Chaplaincy.  Joining him was a senior chaplain, Debra Fuentes.  The Chaplaincy helps those who have experienced trauma.  

 

 

New Week’s Meeting: Lewie Donhose and Fred Rowe will update us on the Rotary’s People of Action and the Fellowship groups.
