EPIC Day of Service

This year’s EPIC Day of Service will be May 16. Our Rotary Club will be working with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace non-profit to help build beds for children who need them.

Sip‘n Frolic

Sip ‘n Frolic will be held May 27 at the Lost Grove Brewery on Lusk Street. A link to the Auction Frogs website will be sent out soon so tickets can be purchased. We already have some amazing sponsors and additional sponsorships are also available from the event ticket link. Each level of sponsorship comes with some event tickets. Companies and individuals are welcome to purchase sponsorships. However, this year at Sip ‘n Frolic there will be a paddle raising. Making a donation with a paddle raise vs a sponsorship, encourages others to raise their paddles and may help to raise additional funds.

We are still in need of some auction items. Rather than donating small items, club members are encouraged to combine items and construct gift baskets. Send an email to Andrea for gift basket ideas. There will be live music and beer tasting; the event will be fun and low key. Money raised from the event will go towards providing running drinking water for the community in Guatemala in partnership with the Engineers without Borders. Funds will also be used to purchase playground equipment for local special needs kids.

Happy Dollars (all donations to Polio Plus Fund).        Rob Onnen was really happy and made a large donation since it had been 27 years since his Iowa Buckeyes had been in the March Madness Sweet 16.                                                                                                              David Cornell was happy that Dirk Manley is married to a lady that is the granddaughter of the woman who married him to his current wife. David was happy for the 7 great years of marriage.                                      Vern Gentry was happy for the great coffee get together an Bill and Marty Agler’s house. He was also happy that David Bennion and a friend from the Ontario Rotary Club  attended their 5th NCAA tournament together.                                                                                                                Ken Howell was happy having just returned from a speaking engagement for North Carolina Pets which is a multidiscipline president training.                                                                                                                Ryan Erstad was happy getting back and surviving from Kindergarten spring break in Disneyland, where the temperature reached 98 degrees. He also donated $1 for the Idaho Vandals who only lasted 1 game in the basketball tournament.                                                                                        Dirk Manley matched David Cornell's contribution declaring that he had just seen his grandmother Charlottie (sp?) where he interviewed her about her life.                                                                                                      Kevin Learned made a donation when he made an announcement concerning the Wetland Peace Preserve. He mentioned that he is a part of  a project to capture photos of native species. There were fliers on the tables describing the activity. Kevin offered to teach those who are interested.                                                                                                              Jerry Schroder wanted to thank David Cornell for filling in for him on the piano while he was in Mexico City.  Jerry upped his contribution to , get ready now, to $10, (audience swooning).                                                   Jim Steele gave $48 happy dollars because 48 years ago he opened a brand new Merrill Lynch office which still exists today.

Last Weeks Presentation

Fireside Chat with Jim Steele and Sean Wall

Sean says he is excited for his upcoming presidency and views it as “Swimming against the tide.” Same as his work where less people are attending church.
Grew up in MCCall where he played sports in High School and became team captain of some of the teams.
He met his wife Melissa going to an Episcopal Church youth event in Nevada. They stayed up all night when they met talking and then rode together on the bus. After that they were inseparable.

Later in the Navy was co-pilot on fighter planes and spent time on Air Craft carriers. Retired from Navy after 20 years
Gone from Idaho for decades and missed it, and would sing the Idaho song when visiting the state.
Sean went to church all the time as a kid. One day Melisa said “I think you are supposed to be a priest.” He did not think so and was on his way to be an attorney. One day a priest said that retired Navy officers make good priests and asked him if he had ever considered it.

This Weeks Speaker            Dr. David A. Kent is a distinguished mental health clinician

He has dedicated over three decades to the field of mental health. Since embarking on his career in 1990, Dr. Kent has amassed extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, providing comprehensive care to individuals and their families. His scholarly work includes co-authoring several peer-reviewed articles that contribute to advancing mental health research.

Driven by a passion to dispel the myths and stigma surrounding mental illness, Dr. Kent was inspired to offer a resource that was noticeably lacking in the market: a psychiatrist's perspective tailored to the needs of families and caregivers. His mission is clear—equip them with the research-backed, culturally sensitive tools needed to support recovery, while ensuring caregiver well-being, all while incorporating them as active members of the mental health treatment team.

Dr. Kent’s expertise and empathy resonate with families, caregivers, and loved ones of those living with mental illness. His work also appeals to individuals seeking to engage their support systems, as well as parents, partners, and extended family members looking for evidence-based strategies.

For more insights and guidance, you can connect with Dr. Kent through his website at https://davidkentauthor.com or follow him on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and X.
