The Rotary Club of Lahaina along with the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise and Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset placed the first 22 rescue tubes on West Maui County Beaches on February 26th, and February 28th.  The installations included Papalaua Beach Park, Ukumehame Beach Park, Launiupoko Beach Park, and Puamana Beach park.  The rescue tubes will help provide an aid in saving lives and hopefully eliminate the instances of double drownings at those locations.

Rescue tubes have been proven to save lives, with the initiative starting on Kauai with the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay.  Here on Maui, The rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea was the first club to install rescue tubes in South Maui.  In January, the County signed an agreement with the three Lahaina clubs to install rescue buoys in West Maui, while individual hotels have started installing rescue buoys in front of their properties.  We hope to have over 50 rescue buoys installed at all West Maui county and state beach parks before the end of 2019.
