Rotarians, The first Fireside reception of 2016 will take place on Thursday evening January 21st at the home of Susan and Larry Sheridan. For those of you who are new to the Rotary Club of Sacramento a Fireside gathering is an opportunity for 18 to 25 fellow Rotarians to meet after work and enjoy talking over a glass of wine and appetizers. The events are always held in a member's home and the atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and cozy. Susan resides at 6424 Sutter Avenue in Carmichael. The Fireside will begin at 5:30PM and continue until 7:00PM. Should you need to contact Susan the night of the event her telephone number is 916-267-4318. Feb. 02, 2016 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
February 2nd may be Groundhogs Day, but it is also time for Rotarians to get some warm comfort food as we hope for more stormy weather. The Rind is a small mid-town cheese-centric bar where you can experience unique and inspiring artisanal cheeses paired with delightful and complex wines and beers. They also serve grown-up Mac and Cheese (how about Lobster or Aussie varieties) and other bits for you to try: perfect “adult” comfort food. It is a unique addition to Sacramento’s dining scene. Check out their web-site. http://www.therindsacramento.com/index.html It’s also a wonderful opportunity for new or newish members to come meet fellow Rotarians in a small, conversational setting. Have you ever had tri-tip BBQ’d on a Big Green Egg? Now’s your chance. Our lovely spring weather will find Rotarians combining a Network Night with a visit to our new Rotary office. Our building has a lovely court yard complete with working fountain (even with water) and seating with plenty of free parking. Rotarians, "We pitched our tents, shouldered our picks and shovels and with pan in hand sallied forth to try our fortunes at gold digging. We did not have very good success being green at mining, but by practice and observation we soon improved some, and found a little of the shining metal." -- A letter home written by Sheldon Shufelt dated 1850, now in the Library of Congress. There are still a few spaces left if you would like to participate in the Rotary Club of Sacramento Mystery Trip on Saturday, May 7th. Our brave band of 49ers will gather at the Rotary Office between 7:30AM and 8:00AM for a tailgate Continental breakfast. We depart promptly at 8:00AM for a day of fun and adventure. For $65 dollars (or, a few gold nuggets) you will receive a Continental breakfast, transportation, admission to places of historic interest, 3 course gourmet lunch, and a presentation. In the afternoon adult beverages will be available for purchase. Plan to wear casual clothing such as jeans and walking shoes. The activity level is not strenuous so this adventure is appropriate for Rotarians (and prospectors) of all ages. We plan to return to Sacramento around 3:00PM. Leesa Fons - Event Chair |
