President Bobby Reed kept it local for the meeting’s opening music, rocking to “The Distance” by Sacramento’s own Cake. The room was full of cheerful Rotarians still dressed in their summer attire.
Kathy Herrfeldt’s Thought for the Day, focused on the importance of health care, quoted Mother Teresa: “The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair and hopelessness is love.”
Meeting sponsor Nancy Teichert donated her time to Rena Harms of Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera. She outlined the fantastic upcoming season and encouraged club members to check out the full schedule at sacphilopera.org.
There was lots of celebratory giving in the room. PP Kevin Smith-Fagan (33rd anniversary to Nancy Smith-Fagan), Sarah Hodge (new job), Bob Rosenberg (son’s engagement), Brian Murray (anniversary), Len Simpson (48th anniversary), PP Susan Sheridan (51st anniversary), and Ted White (53 years of marriage) all marked special occasions with generosity.

Loaves & Fishes – PP Diane Woodruff said volunteers are needed for service on Thursday, August 29.
Sac Century – Volunteers are needed to pass out Sac Century collateral to prospective riders.

Our guest speaker was Dr. Jonathan Porteus from Wellspace Health. Wellspace is a non-profit community health system providing comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services at 30+ centers to underserved people and neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento region. They currently have the largest rehabilitation facility for those suffering from dependency issues in the area. You can find more information about Wellspace at www.wellspacehealth.org.
