After a warm welcome by President Todd Koolakian, PP Bob Miller gave us a thought for the day on the importance of the Sacramento and American rivers, noting the parallels with life itself of those ever flowing rivers. “One thing is sure: Life always goes on.”

Gearing up the club for the May 10 Golf for Kids fundraiser, we heard from two representatives from Ralph Richardson Center, Andrea Horton and Rob Morgan, who recapped the impact our club fundraising has made at RRC over the years. Their programs include an adaptive PE pool, cooking program, life skills, speech therapy, and more. They expressed gratitude and shared some success stories of their students.  

In Todd's Tuesday Trivia, we learned about club members winning at retirement and staying active at 75 and beyond. Among the highlights was learning about 81-year-old John Phair’s continuing scuba exploits around the world!

Loaves and Fishes – Virginia Wade appealed for volunteers at Loaves and Fishes on May 30.

Fireside - the next gathering is May 30 at the home of Jeff Stone, said Mik Miklaus

Theater nights are coming back!  – Jersey Boys at the end of August, Hamilton in January and Tina in the spring.

Sac Century – Jamie Furlong and Tim Mathias seek comrades to help stage the afterparty on Capitol Mall.

Networking Night – May 22 at Buca de Bepo will be the next gathering, announced organizer Ted White.

Let’s Go Skiing!

President Todd's weekly ski trip had included many generous Rotarians.  PP Jon Snyder celebrated his son Lincoln’s new fellowship at Georgetown University.  PEN Kerry Wood reported that the region’s Big Day of Giving day will be Thursday, May 2, aiming to eclipse the $100 million mark over the years. Shirlee Tully donated in honor of Kerry's leadership at Sacramento Region Community Foundation.  An inspired Elke Von Schlosser donated $500 to Ralph Richardson Center.

PE Bobby Reed introduced guest speaker Devin Strecker, Executive Director of the River District.  Devin outlined the organization’s vision and achievements in building up a rapidly evolving section of Sacramento. River District services include attracting investment, promoting local businesses, area cleanliness and of course, events. Devin reported nearly 5,000 new apartments are in construction, in the pipeline or already exist in the River District.

President Todd thanked greeters PP Dan McVeigh, Ed Melia, and Mik Miklaus. Jon Swentowsky handled the photography, while Gary Bazlen hosted the wine reception. No meeting next week because of Golf for Kids!
