Last Meeting....
It was a drug-filled Brown Bag at Parkside Pharmacy this week, as John Ortego -- Robyn Delong's son, and proprietor of said fine establishment -- conducted an informative Q&A with the gathered throng, which numbered in the hundreds (or perhaps a tad less).  Covering all matters pharmaceutical, John spoke on the role of the independent pharmacy in today's healthcare scheme, the benefits of compounding (Parkside is one of only two indpendent pharmacists in town that will concoct specially-tailored drugs for you [recreational excluded]), and the risks inherent in mail-order prescriptions.  John then showed off his beauty boutique and skin spa, and a good time was had by all (and those that didn't were put into a medicinal coma).

Our brown bag lunch was filled to capacity. The lunch was excellent, the presentation was spectacular. I didn't know Sacramento has some of the top heart surgeons in the US, performing cutting-edge (no pun intended) procedures on thousands of patients per year.

Theresa Mandarino hosted our event and Dr. Robert Kincade, M.D., FACS blessed us with his time, professional knowledge and passion. It was time well spent. - Craig Stoker

Hosted by Zoo ED Mary Healy at the new Tall Wonders Giraffe Habitat to experience the first of its kind event serving food while participants fed the tall animals their favorite juicy leaves.
"This Brown Bag at the Zoo was wild!! Enjoying Rotary fellowship, while eating under the new covered and raised observation deck as the giraffes walked around, was a truely unique experience. Those who missed the Zoo's first ever dining-with-the-giraffes experience missed one that can only be called outstanding!"   - PP Tim Pinkney

We met on an elevated deck of the recently completed, multi-million dollar giraffe habitat, where we were "up close and personal" with several beautiful long-necked animals.  We learned of the zoo's 450 critters across the park's lovely 14 acres and about the Zoo's veterinary program in conjunction with U.C. Davis involving a 3 year residency program with training at Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and the Sacramento Zoo.  After our short but informative lecture we roamed the park enjoying the many habitats and animals.  "Otter" than that, the weather was quite "bearable" and we'd be "lion" if we said it was not a beautiful day for Rotary fellowship! - Steve Lamon

Host Ward Connerly talked about race preferences and the body politic.  Attendees asked many insightful questions making the meeting interactive and creating lively discussion.  Participants left a fun meeting with a signed copy of Creating Equal, Ward's first published work. - Diane Schacterle
