Last Meeting...
If you were at this week's Rotary meeting you laughed (courtesy of Jack Gallagher), you cried (courtesy of the lunch), it became a part of you.
After Elfrena (nothing drives like a) Foord tickled the ivories for us during the wine reception, and Brian (brother, can you spare a) Kidney provided us with the Thought of the Day.
We were soon distracted from our meal by Meeting Sponsor of the Day, the classy Doug Ose, who generously spent his "$300 and 3" honoring 51 local area military personnel who died serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Just before Doug we welcomed to the club our newest Rotary member, Rick Osen II, son of Dick.  Speaking of Osen senior, Richard the elder not only led us in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the start of the meeting, but also raised a quick $175 for Bids for Kids in the process, hawking 8 River Cats tickets (with the aforementioned Mr. Ose showing his prowess as a straw man, starting the bidding at a C-Note, and driving the price until Amy Dean topped all bidders).
Our newest comedy act (joining the Hal and Beverly show) was introduced today – none other than our Emcee and Auctioneer for this year's Bids For Kids – Kevin Smith-Fagan, and Past Prez Walter (if your credit's in the tank, it's me you're gonna thank) Dahl.  In comic style that reminded us of Laurel & Hardy, Abbot & Costello, and Simon & Garfunkle, Kevin and Walter led us down a quick parade of items that are now available for bid at the BFK website (go to the Rotary website, click on the BFK auction link, and bid early, bid often).
Speaking of Bids For Kids, if you'd like to contribute to the cause in a fun way, you can join Rita Gibson at Anne Ferguson's house on Tuesday, April 20th, 5:30 p.m., and help prepare this year's decorations for the gala.  Rita assures that no artistic talent is needed, so what better way to get to know your fellow Rotarians than in a more intimate setting while helping out BFK.
OK people, now listen up.  The lovely Leslie Botos has been talking due smack about the Point West club (calling them a not-nice name at one of their meetings [it only cost her a hundred for the privilege]), but we now have to pull together and back her up, lest she and President Beverly be forced to endure unspeakable humiliation at the hands of the morning club if we don't win this year's blood drive contest (the unmentionables lead us by 20 pints, currently).  Nothing says "I support our club" better than bleeding out at one of Leslie's many BloodSource locations, so get yourself down to the nearest one and tell them to credit your donation to the Rotary Club of Sacramento (and if you can't get to a facility, come early to the April 26th Heroes Day meeting, where Leslie's blood mobile will be parked outside for easy leeching).
Three-time Emmy winning humorist Jack Gallagher paid another visit to the club as guest speaker, and it was again a special treat to be entertained by this extremely funny man.  Whether answering questions about his career, or bantering with Doug Ose, Jack kept the crowd in stitches.  Yet his talk was also quite poignant, as he shared details on his latest one-man show that he's in the process of writing – this one about his special relationship with his autistic son, Liam.  If the show is anything like his talk today, you won't want to miss it when it hits the stage.  JBW
