Last Meeting....

Just when some of us thought it would be next to impossible to fill the shoes of our illustrious outgoing President Beverly, we were pleasantly overwhelmed with the gallant and eloquent newly inducted President Scot!  How fortunate are we to have such vibrant and gifted speakers and leaders in our club?  Wow!  We are truly blessed (again).

President Scot Sorensen -- our club’s 99th President -- enthusiastically addressed the membership with his visions and plans for 2010-11 under our theme of “the Joy of Service.”  He summarized Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio, reporting that only a handful of cases remain worldwide.  He gave an overview of  our club’s influence with slides showing a map of the world dotted with stars reflecting each country or area where our members’ donations are used to bring services and supplies to those most in need.  He enjoined us all to work together to draw in new members (“one-a- week” is all he asks), reach out to inactive members (offer support with a culture of hospitality), increase Paul Harris Fellowships by 10%, Eddie Mulligan’s by 5%, and continue our dictionary giving along with additional wheelchairs to those in need.  He encouraged us all to continue to give to the Foundation in an effort to enhance our abilities to assist others worldwide, and to support our longstanding fundraising efforts to help local children (i.e. “Golf-4-Kids” on October 11, 2010 and “Bids-4-Kids” on May 7, 2011).

Finally, Scot graciously thanked the club for bestowing upon him the privilege and honor of his charge as our 99th President, and he dedicated himself to making this a great year of service.  The members showed their unanimous support with several heartfelt ovations, and all left energized with the rotary spirit.  Here’s to a great year President Scot!
