Nine months ago, Volunteers of America opened Sacramento's first ever Senior Safe House, a program designed to provide a safe sanctuary for abused and neglected senior citizens. The residential home has the capacity to serve six seniors (men or women) for an extended period of time. Since opening, the program has served over twenty men and women who have been victimized by others, most frequently a member of their immediate family or caregiver.
This is the only program of its kind west of the Mississippi and would not be possible without the support of local community organizations and businesses.
