Heroes Day Awards

Jeff vonKaenel, Chairman of Hero’s Day, introduced Claire Pomeroy from the UC Davis School of Medicine.  Claire recognized Norm Silveria as an RCS Hero for his 18 years of volunteer services to the UC Davis Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program.  Norm has spent more than 5,260 hours of his time benefiting patients, physicians, nurses, and staff and has become a true ambassador for the UC Health System.  Claire noted that Norm’s efforts have truly helped to change people’s lives.

Jeff next introduced Pam Saltenberger from the Girl Scouts of America, who recognized our next Hero, Patti Oshita.  20 years ago, Patti accepted the responsibility to organize a Girl Scout Troop at the Buddhist Temple in Sacramento.  Patti’s efforts built a local organization that has provided girl scouting benefits to countless numbers of young women in the Sacramento area.  Many of the girls in Patti’s first Troup have grown up and come back to the organization as volunteer leaders.  As time progressed, Patti served on the Board of Directors and became an important link between the Board and the organization’s volunteers.

Jeff then introduced Ken Cross of the Habitat for Humanity.  Ken recognized RCS’s last Hero, Ardelle Pearsall.  Ardelle began volunteering at Habitat for Humanity in the late 1980s and went on to acquire expertise in all facets of home construction, from framing to electrical systems.  Last year, the Habitat for Humanity recognized Ardelle’s tremendous contributions by presenting her with an Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award.  Sadly, Ardelle passed away last December, but she will always be remembered as an RCS Hero.  Her son, Robert, was here to accept the Club’s award.
