Today we welcomed Adirondack Explorer's Zachary Matson.  Zachary has been an environmental reporter for the Explorer since 2021. His focus is on the many issues impacting water quality and the people, plants and wildlife and the continued need for clean water where we live, work and play.  Lake Placid's Mirror Lake is unique to the Adirondacks as it's defined as an urban lake, subject to several stresses because of the road, buildings and people density that surround it.  A major concern is the salt level in the lake which, if too high, will prevent the lake from "turning over" - a natural process where a lake's waters areas mix from top to bottom.  This allows for oxygen to be replenished and nutrients distributed throughout the lake.  Otherwise, the lake will become "dead" with the many adverse impacts that follow.  Read some of Zachary's reporting in the Explorer here:  https://www.adirondackexplorer.org/author/zmatson    Zachary is shown here with Rotarian Hannah Hanford.
