Two presentations today focused on activities to educate and care for children.  St. Agnes’ Katie Turner presented some new approaches to a pre-school / pre-reading program featuring a new methodology in learning the A B C’s.  Using tactile skills to develop letter recognition as part of learning to read and discovering the enjoyment reading can provide.  Next, Dean Dietrich, Catherine Bemis and Katie Brennan presented the Lake Placid & North Elba First Steps Project which seeks to ensure high quality childcare is available to residents and workers in our community.  This is a sorely needed program for parents.  Click on the images for the full story.  Like everything, there’s a cost attached, and the Lake Placid NY Rotary Foundation will serve as a conduit for tax-advantaged donations.  An initial $50,000 donation received from the Town of North Elba as part of establishing an endowment fund.
