Bus Shelters for Lake Placid
On July 18 at the Bus Shelter on Main Street (next to Stewart’s) a dedication ceremony was held to honor the late Nate Parsons, one of the builders of the Village’s three shelters.  These shelters have become popular from day one, providing place to rest for riders awaiting the next bus.  Speakers included past Rotary Club Presidents Bill Flederbach and Heather Perkins.  Also speaking were member of Nate’s family and Lake Placid Mayor Art Devlin. Heather, along with Martha Spear, were the drivers of this project, conducting a capital campaign and receiving support from the Uihlein Foundation, a LEAF Grant and assistance from the Adirondack Foundation.  The Rotary Club of Lake Placid is looking forward to a new project enabling construction of additional shelters in the Village at locations shown to be popular with residents and visitors alike.    Bill Flederbach's remarks:

"Family, friends, and Rotary Club members, we are honored to take a moment to celebrate the life of Nathan Parsons. He was indeed a person to admire.  He loved his life in the Adirondacks, and chose this place to build his home, family, and business.
Nathan was an artist, a graduate of Montclair State University in fine arts. Many examples of his work can be viewed in private homes, camps, restaurants, and around the area. The bus shelters, some would say, is not an artistic example of his work, however it is an example of who Nathan was as a person. A protection to his family and friends. A shelter for everyone in his circle. He was reliable and dependable, like a shelter for so many. It is our hope that the bus shelter does the same for all those who use it, serving as a protection for years to come.

We hope that Nathan’s love carries on in the hearts of his family and friends. Our hope is that the joy of Nathan will live on through his daughters Louisa and Edith. Nathan was a joyful, kindhearted person. He wanted nothing but the best for his family and friends. He would want to protect and shelter them forever. The bus shelters are a perfect tribute to Nathan, who he was and will always be for so many. A special thank you to Sam, Bill and the Rotary Club for honoring Nathan."
