President's Chat
Jan's Chat 1
Congratulations to PP Ian McKay for receiving a District Citation and completing a testing year. He’s driven many kilometres to complete his heavy commitment to Daybreak. Well done Ian, I have great respect your time and management skills. I sincerely thank you for your effort, and the job you have done very well, under extreme circumstances.

Changeover went smoothly, but a few of us would have been happy with a little less heating in the Mid City Wednesday morning.

Congratulations to our Peter Johns Award recipient, Margaret Moreton, let’s hope she is well again very soon.

I’d like to welcome Liza McCosh and Erin Fitzgibbon to the club.

During the week, a $1,000.00 cheque was presented to the Kalay Academy, with Cheryl, Glenn and Liza attending the presentation. Jenny also presented a cheque to Tasty Plate on behalf of the Long Lunch committee. I haven’t seen either of these on Facebook or in the Warrnambool Standard, I’m hoping that in the coming year we will have more formal procedures in place that allow our Public Relations Committee to use these occasions to greater benefit.

This coming week, we’ll have breakfast at the Mid City, I’ve done some “techo” homework, and will try to followed in the footsteps of PP Ian, that’ll be interesting. Then we will take a formal tour of the Liebig Street works – the first side is almost finished. That side will then be opened, and the other side works will start.

That’s about all I can think of for the moment, other than to say,  I’m looking forward to coming year – let the fun and games begin ……..

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

A poodle and a collie are walking together when the poodle suddenly unloads on his friend. “My life is a mess,” he says. “My owner is mean, my girlfriend ran away with a schnauzer and I’m as jittery as a cat.”
“Why don’t you go see a psychiatrist?” suggests the collie.
“I can’t” says the poodle. “I’m not allowed on the couch.”

My job is in the aerospace industry, and it's always been a challenge to explain what kind of work I do.

At one gathering, I tried several unsuccessful attempted explanations before deciding to be as generic as possible. When the subject came up while I was talking with a group of guys, I replied simply, "Defense contractor."

The men nodded, and as the conversation went on, I silently declared victory to myself. Then, one of them turned to me and asked, "So, what do you put up mainly? Chain-link?"

Lost on a rainy night, a nun stumbled across a monastery and requests shelter there.

Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she had ever tasted.

After dinner, she went into the kitchen to thank the chefs. She was met by two of the Brothers.

The first one says, "Hello, I am brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles."

"I'm very pleased to meet you," replies the nun. "I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever had. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?"

Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar."

She turned to the other Brother and says "then you must be....?"

"Yes, I'm afraid I'm the chip monk."

An elderly retiree wobbled gingerly into an ice cream shop and carefully, slowly climbed up onto a counter stool. He wheezed for a minute, then ordered a chocolate sundae.

“Crushed nuts?” asked the server.

“No,” he answered. “Bad knees.”

A little guy sat in a cafe one day eating his lunch. Three Hells Angel bikers walked into the cafe, looked around, and decided to have some fun with the little guy.

They sat at his table.   One of them took his coffee away from him and drank it down. The next one took his sandwich away and ate it down.   The third Hells Angel took the little guy's pie and ate it down.

Without saying a word, the little guy got up, went to the cash register, paid his bill, and left.   One of the Hells Angels looked at the waitress, and said, "Did you see that?   We took away his coffee, his sandwich, and his pie!   And he didn't say a word!   He sure ain't much of a man!"

The waitress turned to them and said, "He ain't much of a truck driver either.  He just ran over three motorcycles in the parking lot!"

I'm not the easiest guy in the world to get along with. So when our anniversary rolled around, I wanted my wife to know how much I appreciated her tolerating me for the past 20 years. I ordered flowers and told the florist to enclose a card that read, 'Thanks for putting up with me so long.'

When my wife got the delivery, she called me at work.

"Just where do you think you going?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" I said.

She read the card aloud as the florist had written it: "Thanks for putting up with me. So long."
