President's Chat
Bulletin 17
This week we welcomed 16 members with apologies from Jennie Miller, Alison Dennis and Ian Harper.
President Peter welcomed District Governor Phil Beasley and partner Judy to the meeting.  DG Phil and Judy joined us from sunny Swan Hill where they had attended a breakfast meeting with RC Swan Hill Sunrise.  We also welcomed guest Fiona Steenhuis to our meeting.
Sergeant Barry invited Janey to recite the Invocation with Chris to perform the Toast.
Guest Speaker - District Governor Phil Beasley
DG Phil spoke about the uncertain times with Rotary worldwide and locally and how important it is for Clubs to focus on their communities needs.
DG Phil’s presentation focused on:
  • Club Members welfare and friendship - help ourselves before we focus on others;
  • Local communities – reach out to find what is required;
  • Reset Club goals;
  • Consider partnering with other clubs within Group 5 and across District 9780;
  • Invite partner clubs to Zoom Meetings / functions / activities etc.
DG Phil encouraged members to participate in one of the District Interest Groups (DIG).   Currently there are 2 DIG’s in our district these being Literacy and Environment.
The aim of the DIG’s is to bring together members with similar interests to expand opportunities for our own members as well as opening new community service opportunities.
Forming Interest Groups at Group and District level allows members to connect beyond the Club, meeting with like minded people and bringing back to your club new ideas and opportunities.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Teacher: "Kids, what does the chicken give you?"
Student: "Meat!"
Teacher: "Very good! Now what does the pig give you?"
Student: "Bacon!"
Teacher: "Great! And what does the fat cow give you?"
Student: "Homework!"

A child asked his father, "How were people born?" So his father said, "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on." The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!" His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family."

A boy asks his father, "Dad, are bugs good to eat?" "That's disgusting. Don't talk about things like that over dinner," the dad replies. After dinner the father asks, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?" "Oh, nothing," the boy says. "There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone."
