President's Chat
Steve's Chat 3
The weather has been a little brighter, if not warmer in recent days.  We had 19 Members attending our meeting and enjoying fellowship in a warm environment.

I attended the RC of Terang’s changeover on Wednesday night.  For a small club of only 15 members, they have had a very successful year donating over $20,000:00 to local and international organizations.

Some things they did during the year include:

  • Maintenance & signage at Terang/Noorat Walking Track
  • Memorial Plaques for stillborn baby graves
  • Supported TMHS Cycle team in Murray to Moyne
  • Assisted BlaizeAid Volunteers by cooking and serving meals

Terangs major sources of fundraising were:
  • Selling Show Bags at the Noorat Agricultural show
  • Manning the gates on Terang Trots
  • Bunnings BBQ’s
  • Community Raffle
  • Propagation and selling of trees for various projects.

On a club leadership level, Terang is embarking on an interesting load sharing year.  There will be a standard board structure for the year, and four presidents, with the first president being inducted at the changeover.

Sometime in the new year Terang may run another fundraising event at the Trots, many members enjoyed this last time, it would be great if we were able to support them again.

At the end of the formalities we had a guest speaker- Interplast Surgeon Mr. Ian Holten.  The content included Cleft Palate Surgery but mainly many inspirational operations and life stories on burn victims.

An interesting online article (From the Rotarian) you may wish to read:
“After overcoming a tough childhood, paediatrician Ramon Resa is helping to raise a new generation of kids”

Group 5 Meeting Wednesday 20/06:

PE Liza McCosh represented the club at a Group 5 Meeting in Port Fairy.  There was a great deal of discussion centered around current issues and potential joint club events.  Some points include:

  • 80year old members not being covered by insurance - clubs should ensure that their members are aware of this particularly at events.
  • Still awaiting information from RI & District for the ongoing issues on youth protection & insurance signoffs.
  • Possibility of joint group 5 projects
    • Peace concert- working committee may be formed
    • Making of Rotary material bags to be sold at supermarkets
    • Weekend getaways for people affected by recent fires in the district
  • Rotaract - Discussed strategy among group 5 to perhaps get all youth Directors working together.
  • Group 5 social day in Portland.  Possible date would be Sunday Nov 11. Portland clubs to organize activities over there.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

A student comes to a young professor's office hours. She glances down the hall, closes his door, kneels pleadingly.

"I would do anything to pass this exam." She leans closer to him, flips back her hair, gazes meaningfully into his eyes. "I mean..." she whispers, "...I would do...anything."

He returns her gaze. "Anything?"

"Anything."

His voice softens. "Anything??"

"Absolutely anything."

His voice turns to a whisper. "Would you...study?"

Joe passed away. His will provided $30,000 for an elaborate funeral. As the last guests departed the affair, his wife, Helen, turned to her oldest friend, Jodi. “Well, I’m sure Joe would be pleased,” she said.“I’m sure you’re right,” replied Jody, who lowered her voice and leaned in close. “How much did this really cost?”

“All of it?” said Helen. “Thirty thousand.”
“No!” Jody exclaimed. “I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?”

Helen answered, “The funeral was $6,500. I donated $500 to the church. The wake, food and drinks were another $500. The rest went for the memorial stone.”
Jody computed quickly. “$22,500 for a memorial stone? My God, how big is it?!”

“Two and a half carats.”

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his mobile phone and calls emergency services. He gasps 'My friend is dead! What can I do?' The operator says, 'Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead."
There's a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says, 'Ok, now what?'

For men....Words women use #1 -
'FINE'...This is the word women use to end an argument when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use 'fine' to describe how a woman looks - this will cause you to have one of those arguments.
