This week’s meeting included the induction of Fiona Steenhuis.
Peter Smid spoke briefly about Fiona, who was searching for a Rotary Club to join and fortunately she found us.
Fiona is originally from Ballarat. She studied at Deakin, Warrnambool and currently works for Brophy. She will soon complete her CPA.
Her hobbies include angling, crafts and quilting. She is passionate about her family of course, but also in sustainability, renewables and social equity.
We welcome Fiona to the club and look forward to working with her on one of our many projects.
We will be helping out at the Gillin Foundation bbq on Sunday 21st February.
Ian Watson showed us a film clip explaining the Rotary Foundation. Funding is used to fight disease
There are 3 buckets that the money goes into.
1.Polio Plus. 2. Annual Fund. 3. Endowment Fund
- Money in here can only be used for Polio Plus and has it’s own separate investment policy. The money is used quickly, as it comes in, to support polio eradication programs .
- Clubs encourage members to donate here – every member, every year.
It raises 110 – 130M per year. This accumulates and after each 3 year period the money is available for clubs to apply for, to fund projects. All donations are used for projects and only the interest is used to cover expenses incurred in the administration of the fund.
- This comprises gifts or endowments through member’s wills. Gifts are kept in perpetuity and the interest is used to fund project
