Liza's Chat 46
Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 46.  We are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel with some restrictions soon to be eased for gatherings of people. Hopefully it will not be too long before we can resume our breakfast meetings at The Lady Bay or at least gather for a meal and a face to face catch up.  We will keep members informed as further restrictions are lifted.

Our Friday night Zoom meetings continue to be a good way for our Club to maintain communication with members.  There are some members who have not attempted to join for various reasons. If you have not participated due to a lack of equipment or knowledge of the zoom platform, please contact me or another member and we’ll arrange for a member to either sit with you or talk you through the process.

Care Program Update – Glenn has reported that there were no clients for the Care Program on Sunday May 17.  Other community care organizations have received extra funding to support people in need and we think that perhaps for the current period our usual clients are receiving the support they need.  Anglicare continue to monitor the situation and Daybreakers are ready to resume the program when restrictions are lifted and the needs of clients increase.

Board Meeting – Daybreak’s Board met on Tuesday evening May 19 via zoom. The Board decided to give financial support to the Parkinson’s Group for the distribution of their fortnightly newsletter which is a crucial means of maintaining contact while their clients are in isolation.  The Parkinson’s Group are at high risk during the outbreak of Covid-19 and therefore must adhere to strict isolation guidelines, having to forgo their usual meetings and visits from members of the Support Group which can have devastating effects on their morale.  Rotary International are calling on Clubs to report on how they are responding to Covid-19 in terms of service within the community and the Board considered the support from Daybreak to the local Parkinson’s Support Group as delivering on the this objective.

The Board also were unanimous in supporting Shelterbox Australia through the purchase of a  shelterbox.  As highlighted in the Bulletin last week, Covid-19 has had major impact worldwide and countries such as Syria where many are homeless are in dire need of assistance.  A Shelterbox consists of items such as a tent, blankets, solar lights, water carriers, cooking implements and other essential items that contribute to setting up a home base.

Members can also donate separately to Shelterbox. Details for donating are:
EFT: Bendigo Bank: ShelterBox Australia: BSB 633 000: Account no. 166 780 163 (please email office@shelterbox.org.au to notify us of your donation and receive your tax receipt). Cheques can be mailed to: ShelterBox Australia, PO Box 254, Parramatta, NSW, 2124
Daybreak’s Changeover -  Plans are continuing for Daybreak’s changeover ceremony via zoom on Wednesday evening June 24 commencing at 7.30pm.  If restrictions are further lifted enabling a face to face meeting, members will be notified.

Course Updates – There is a new course advertised on the Learning Centre, Advising Planners of Rotary Grants. Participants will learn how to design strong grant projects for their Clubs.  While the courses offered on the Learning Centre are geared toward Rotary requirements they do offer participants skills they can take beyond Rotary.

District Meeting and Assembly – A reminder that the Assembly is taking place online during the month of May.  This is a great opportunity to up-skill so join in online and enrol in the training sessions relevant to the Committee you will be working with in 2020-21. If you need assistance accessing the training area please let myself or Chez know.  Thanks to Glenn Rundell for attending the recent seminar on Insurance requirements for our Club, and Chris Preston for qualifying for Grants submission for Daybreak.

Bowelscan Month – As mentioned last week, May is Rotary Bowelscan Month; however kits are not available in pharmacies this year.  The kits can still be purchased at www.rotarybowelscan.com.au at a cost of $20.  Please pass the word on and help save a life.

2020 Rotary Virtual Convention – As the Rotary International Conference was cancelled, RI have decided to hold a virtual convention from June 20-26.  This will be a great opportunity to participate in an event that will truly signal Rotary as Connecting the World and you will be able to do this from your own house.  We will circulate more about this event as it is circulated from RI.

Down Memory Lane – Chez has sent through some pictures from the Octoberfest event held by Daybreak in 2005.  The photos should bring back some happy memories for members.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Two businessmen in a new shopping mall.....were sitting down for a break in their soon-to-be new shop...

As yet, the shop wasn't ready, with only a few shelves set up.

One said to the other, "I bet any minute now some pensioner is going to walk by,put their face to the window, and ask what we're selling."

No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious old woman walked to the window,  had a peek, and in a soft voice asked,  "What are you selling here?" One of the men replied sarcastically, "We're selling a*s-holes."

Without skipping a beat, the old dear said, “Must be doing well...
Only two left!."

I called an old school friend, now an academic in a science faculty, and asked what was he doing. He replied that he was working on "Aqua-thermal treatment of ceramics, aluminum andsteel under a constrained environment." I was impressed, and thought he obviously was working on an interesting Post-Doctoral topic.

On further inquiring, I learned that he was washing dishes with hot water ... under his wife's supervision.

--------------------------------------------------------

While running around the lounge swatting flies the wife asked me how many had I got?
I said “Six...3 males 3 females “
“How do you know the difference?” She asked “ Three on a beer can, three on the phone”.

A police recruit was asked during the exam, "What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?"

He said, "Call for backup."

"There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is in having lots to do and not doing it." -Mary Wilson Little

Two boys were walking home from Sunday school after hearing a strong preaching on the devil. One said to the other, "What do you think about all this Satan stuff?" The other boy replied, "Well, you know how Santa Claus turned out. It's probably just your dad."

Frustrated at always being corrected by her husband, a woman decided that the next time it happened, she would have a comeback. That moment finally arrived, and she was ready.

"You know," she challenged, "even a broken clock is right once a day."

Her husband looked at her and replied, "Twice."
