Hello Daybreakers,
The last 2 weeks have flown past me, retirement, too much to do.
A reminder that this Saturday ( 3rd Feb ) we are catering at the Ignite Music Festival, and are looking for help on the day. We are the sole food provider from 12 noon 'till 10pm - it should be an interesting day !
Then on Sunday it's the Beach Patrol 3280 clean up. Liza and Wayne McCosh have been participating in this great initiative, it only takes 2 hours out of your Sunday and we will get plenty of fresh air down at the breakwater, kiosk area this coming week.
Meet at the Pavilion ready for a 10 am start. Thanks Liza for this.

…. January Theme: Vocational Service Month ….
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following is a brief summary of polio eradication in 2023 and a suggestion for World Rotary Day.
Wild Polio Virus cases in 2023: 12
- In 2023, there were 6 cases in Afghanistan and 6 cases in Pakistan.
- However, the 2023 Total Case Count numbers will not be finalised for a couple of months due to discovery delays and lab testing times.
- It is now 8 weeks since the most recent reported wild polio case which was in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
- 12 cases compare favourably with the 30 cases in 2022.
Circulating Variant Polio cases in 2023: 457
- The use of Novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type 2 is leading to a reduction in cases of circulating vaccine derived polio (cVDPV also known as variant polio)
- The 457 cases in 2023 is a dramatic reduction on the 2022 figure of 914.
- Since 2021, approximately 1 billion doses of nOPV2 have already been administered across 35 countries under emergency use criteria.
- In December, the WHO gave regulatory approval for this next generation vaccine to be used in more countries.
World Rotary Day (Rotary’s birthday) Friday 23 February
- The significant reductions in WPV and cVDPV cases are worthy of celebration and what better time do that than on Rotary’s 119th anniversary.
- We know that events run by Rotary clubs and districts are very effective at raising awareness and funds for polio eradication.
- Why not encourage clubs in your district to do something on 23 February to celebrate the successes of Rotary’s polio campaign.
- This year, February 23 falls on a Friday, so a lunchtime or evening community barbecue on that day would be a great way to celebrate.

Stephen Bellamy has been quietly working away in the background with the Food Share calico bag Warrnambool Food Drive.
Stephen recently emailed on Thursday 11th January to all members this information.
Hello Daybreakers,
I have another 4 small calico bags (as per attachment) to fill for Western district Foodshare. If you are in a position to donate non-perishable food items in the coming days-weeks, it would be most appreciated.
I am happy to pick donations up or you could drop items into me at 16 Sharpe Avenue. I will then take the bags to food share. If you wish I can drop in a bag for you to fill and take to food share yourself or i am happy to pick them up.
Warm Regards
Stephen
Thanks Stephen for doing this, I know Barry Brooker has always been a big advocate for Food Share as well.
BBQ- BBQ- BBQ
All 5 done now plus a Bunning BBQ as an extra.
Ian Harper has been a great driver behind the BBQ’s organising the food and rosters, Ian hasn’t had time to stand still, so he tells us.
Ian will present us with a full wind up of how we did financially over the last month.
We are always looking for guest speakers at our meetings, so please pass on any contact details to our Program Coordinator PP Sandra.
Raffle; HOW ARE YOUR SALES GOING
Club member Sue Cassidy handed out the RC Ballarat South Community Raffle tickets to members in November.
If you can sell another book that would be great also.
Our club gets to keep $1.60 from each ticket sold. Great 1st prize being a $38,000.00 car. And 2nd prize is a $1000.00 Bunning voucher.
If only 20 members sold 20 tickets that would make us $640.00. Seems too easy really.
Cheers.. President Chris. Create Hope in the World
