President's Chat
Liza's Chat 47
Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 47.  From this week June 1, restaurants will again be open for business for twenty people at a time and by June 22 we may see as many as fifty people allowed in eating venues.

This has implications for our upcoming changeover event.  At the moment we have planned for a Zoom meeting however if the Lady Bay can accommodate and it suits our incoming President, we may alter our plans.  More information from The Lady Bay should be available in the coming week and members will be informed if we make changes.

Our Friday night Zoom meetings continue with a slight drop in attendance since restrictions have been eased on gatherings of people.  I assume people have been catching up with friends they haven’t seen for several weeks.

Care Program Update – Glenn has reported that no clients attended the Care Program last Sunday. This is the second week in a row that no one has turned up and it is disappointing for the volunteers assisting Anglicare.  However, the positive is that our clients must be receiving the care they need from other sources at the moment.  That situation is bound to change and Daybreak will be ready to step in with assistance when that occurs.

District Meeting and Assembly – A reminder that this is the final week of the online District Assembly.  However, learning modules will be available all year round on the Learning Centre.  There is a new course advertised on the Learning Centre, Advising Planners of Rotary Grants. Participants will learn how to design strong grant projects for their Clubs.  While the courses offered on the Learning Centre are geared toward Rotary requirements they do offer participants skills they can take beyond Rotary.

2020 Rotary Virtual Convention – As the Rotary International Conference was cancelled, RI have decided to hold a virtual convention from June 20-26.  This will be a great opportunity to participate in an event that will truly signal Rotary as Connecting the World and you will be able to do this from your own house.  Please see the attached schedule of sessions which has been translated into AEST time.  Sessions start each day at 11pm, 3am and 9am.  To register visit http://www.riconvention.org/en

Foundation Update – The Rotary Foundation has approved more than $5 million in disaster response grants to address the COVID-19 pandemic.  These grants went to various countries across the globe and a full list of projects funded can be found under the Foundation tab on my.rotary.org

Rotary also raised $525,000 through a #RotaryResponds Virtual Telethon held on May 2 the proceeds of which funded a further 21 grants toward COVID-19 related efforts around the world.

Rotary International has released a statement saying that it is understandable that attention to polio eradication will be temporarily diverted, and this makes it all the more vital for Rotarians to remain strongly committed to fighting polio and not let our progress be eroded.

If you have not recently given to the Foundation please consider doing so now when the need is critical.

Knitting for BackPack 4 Kids – Chez has done a great job activating this project with several people knitting children’s blankets to be included in backpacks. People thus far involved in the project are Lydia, Ree Rundell, Betty Suggett, Janey, Wilma Preston, Chez and her granddaughter Tahalia Johnstone.  It is hoped we can invite Peter and Jenny King from South West BackPack 4 Kids to a future Daybreak meeting and present the blankets.

Member Request – Bob is on the lookout for a solid chopping block 45-50cm tall.  If anyone can assist, please contact Bob.  Perhaps a delivery of chopped wood might be a better option Bob!

Birthdays – Bob will be celebrating his birthday on Thursday June 4, congratulations Bob, no wood chopping on that day!  It might be an expensive week for Andrew Nield as his wife Kirri will also be celebrating her birthday on June 6.  Just as well the restaurants will be back open Andrew!

I am so looking forward to meeting up with members face to face and it seems that is now in the foreseeable future.  In the meantime stay safe and stay connected.

Liza

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

This guy was idly walking along the Beach when he came
across a lamp partially buried in the sand. He picked it up
and, on and impulse, gave it a rub and, sure enough a genie
appeared and told him he had been granted one wish. He
thought for a moment and said, “I want to live forever.”
“Sorry,” said the genie, “I’m not allowed to grant eternal life.”

“Okay then, I want to die after our government balances
the budget, eliminates debt and stamps out corruption.”
You sneaky blighter…” said the genie !

A priest, a minister and a rabbit walk into a bar after lock down
“What will it be?” the barman asked the rabbit,
“I don't rightly know said the rabbit, I am only here because of auto correct.”

A busy estate agent was trying desperately to sell me a house that had it’s laundry outside in a garage.
“Look,” he declared, while you wash your clothes you can keep an eye on your children as they can come down here with you and play for hours!”
I took my sunglasses off so he could see my face clearly.

“My children are in their thirties,” I told him. “If I asked them to leave work and come and skip around in here they would have me locked up!”
The agent looked closely at me for the first time, slapped his side, doubled up with laughter and quickly ran around the side of the house!

Seeing the funeral story about Jock reminded me of happier times in Jocks life

As he lay dying, his old friend Andy came to his bedside to visit.  'Andy', said Jock, 'In yon cupboard is a bottle of 40 year old whiskey.  When I'm gone, will you pour it over ma grave for me?'

Andy though long and hard about this before answering ' Aye Jock, I'll do it, but you'll not mind if it passes through ma kidneys first?'

My husband worked at a hydro dam and his boss asked him what steps he would take if there was a bomb scare. His reply was "BIG ones up to the top of the hill". The boss asked the other worker what steps he would take. His reply was "I'd probably be running past Phil". The boss was VERY disappointed in what he said would be a "gross dereliction of duty". "But we'd still be alive", said Phil, "so it would be worth the shame".

Before I got through to Sea World, I had to say "Jump through the hoop! Do a flip!"
They said my call may be recorded for training porpoises.

Steven Hawking came back from his first date in 10 years.
His Glasses were smashed, he had a broken wrist, twisted ankle and grazed knees.
Apparently she stood him up.
