Hello Daybreakers,

Our meeting on 8 March 2023 focused on Water and Sanitation being the focus for the month of March in our Rotary calendar year.

The video clip which was shown by Cheryl Bellman gave us a great insight to the needs of water and sanitation in the world. As you may recall, our own members Chris and Janey and our past member, Ian Watson with Tony Austin from the Warrnambool Rotary Club had participated in water projects at Sariri Village in Papua New Guinea

We also had a very moving YouTube clip of Operation Cleft, a Rotary Program in Bangladesh

The YouTube showed the large birth defects of severe cleft lip and palate.

The footage showed some quite severe facial deformity in Bangladeshi children which have a high portion of cleft and lip palate defects in newborns.

The palate defect creates enormous nasal infection as was described in the clip.

It is another wonderful program that Rotary is heavily involved and sits very well with the theme ‘let’s imagine Rotary’ and what Rotary can achieve in countries that are underprivileged and poor.

We are very fortunate, not only locally but in Australia that these type of defects are not common and if they do occur we have great expertise funded by our public health system.

The Board Directors provided the meetiing  with reports from the board meeting on Monday March 6th.

It was good news that our trailer shed will be constructed with, hopefully the consent of the Warrnambool Showgrounds Committee, at the south end of where the shipping containers are currently situated. It is on the other side effectively near the boundary fence.

The colorbond shed will be a stand-alone shed, 3.7m x 6.3m.

There will be a concrete slab for the shed which will be excellent for parking and placing the barbeque trailer.

This will also give us plenty of room to maneuver the trailer and solar lighting would certainly be an option to enable the trailer to be returned after our evening barbeques.

The Board also agreed that the recipient of the Long Lunch net proceeds will be Loved & Shared

Love & Shared have their official launch on 29 March 2023 in respect to their programs. Both Janey and Sandra will attend the official launch on behalf of our club.

We have been requested by DG Kathy Rivett to compile a slide show of photos of activities of our club for display at the Rotary Conference commencing on 24 March 2023.

I thank Di Brown for putting this together and if any club members have any particular photos that should be displayed please email those photos to either Di Brown or Cheryl.

Peter Smid as Foundation Director will continue to work on scheduling a movie night fundraiser in June 2023.

Let’s see what movies can be screened at the time that will be a great attraction for the broader community to raise funds for all our local projects.

The Board will be considering in the near future its bi-annual fundraising giving to various programs and projects before the end of the Rotary year of my Presidency.

If there are any programs or projects that the Board should consider, please let Glenn know. We go through a criteria to warrant funding by our club.

I would also like to thank Alison Dennis in offering her home for another social evening for our club on 1 April 2023.

The club will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary on 29 July 2023 at the Clovelly Restaurant.

Again, I would like to thank Cheryl and Janey as the organising committee to coordinate this milestone for our club.

To assist both Cheryl and Janey, could some members offer to assist in any shape or form just to take the load off Cheryl and Janey. This will be a celebration in Chris’s year as incoming President.

Let’s continue with our Rotary International theme… …. Let’s Imagine Rotary.

Your President,

Sergio Bacchetti

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

A man was driving down the street when he saw a flash in his rear view mirror.
He realised he'd just passed a speed camera but was sure he was well within the limit.
So to check the accuracy of the camera he drove past again, well under the speed limit.
The camera flashed but now he was satisfied it was faulty and feeling very smug.
Next week he received two infringement notices for not wearing a seat belt!

Guy walks into a psychologist’s office.
He declares, “Doctor, Doctor! I’m a wigwam,
I’m a Tepee, I’m a wigwam, I’m a Tepee!”
Doctor interrupts and says,
“Calm down! You’re two tents.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The door in my new flat works by voice recognition, but only when I sing.
Got home the other night and the bloody thing didn't open.
I then realised that I was using the wrong key...

A man was driving down the road with a tiger in his car in the passenger seat.
A policeman pulled him over and said “it’s illegal to have a tiger.
Take him to the zoo.”
The man said “ ok officer.” And drove off.

Next day the same man in the same car drove down the same road with the
same tiger in the car. This time the tiger had sun glasses and a sun hat on.
The same policeman pulled him over. He said “I told you to take that tiger to the zoo.”

The man replies “I did officer, we had a great day. We’re going to the beach today.”

I have been unable to sleep since I broke off your engagement to my daughter.
Will you forgive and forget? I was much too sensitive about your Mohawk, tattoo and
pierced nose. I now realize motorcycles aren't really that dangerous, and I really
should not have reacted that way to the fact that you have never held a job.
I am also very sure that some other very nice people live under the ...bridge in the park, too.

Sure my daughter is only 18 and wants to marry you instead of going to University on
full scholarship. After all, you can't learn everything about life from books.
I sometimes forget how backward I can be. I was wrong. I was a fool. I have now
come to my senses and you have my full blessing to marry my daughter.

Sincerely, Your future father-in-law.

P.S. Congratulations on winning the £100 million on the lottery!

Two cartons of yogurt walk into a bar. The bartender, who was a tub of cottage cheese,
says to them, "We don't serve your kind in here."

One of the yogurt cartons says back to him, "Why not? We're cultured individuals."

Patient: My stomach is getting awfully big, doctor.

Doctor: You should diet.

Patient: Really? What color?
