President's Chat
Jan's Chat 45
Hello Daybreakers,

It seems quite a while since we had a normal meeting with ANZAC Day then the race meeting. It was a busy morning with lots of chatter, plenty of fines, and lots of laughs. Barry had to remind me again to slot in the Brooker Prize, and said I always forget him. That’s not quite right, but very close – it’s another thing I do regularly forget. It seems I haven’t trained people to remind me of things as well as I should. Only three regular meetings to go, I promise I will not forget again.

Louise Keogh from RC of Warrnambool brought along German Exchange Student Ben to say goodbye to us as he is heading home tomorrow. We didn’t see a lot of Ben during his year here, but he was always entertaining, and a delightful young man. There is no doubt that if our club had more involvement in the youth exchange program then we would get to see these students more. Louise has asked our members to please consider hosting one or both of the incoming students in the coming year. There is a French girl and a Danish boy, and Louise has requested that we consider hosting, even if it is only for a brief period. Four weeks or even a weekend is a help to the councillors and other host families – please make it known if you are willing and able to help in any way.

Janey filled our heads with some interesting facts. We congratulated Gerard on his 50m Coastal Classic 2018 win. Mel was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from Operation Cleft. Numbers are looking good at this stage for the Scriptwise Forum, and our efforts for the Community Kitchen (Soup Kitchen) are being well organised by Jenny. Harpo sent around the roster to be filled for the Flagstaff Hill BBQ on the 27th May, and Sue has organised “The Party” movie for us for the 30th of May. Perhaps June will be a quiet month, well it will be for me after the sixth.

Next week we will have a speaker to give us some information on how the NDIS is working locally.

Next Week: Cooked Breakfast  $20.00

Please send apologies through to Steve on 0457 926 657 by Midday on the Tuesday.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Two blokes living in the Australian outback saw a couple of jobs advertised by the Queen of England. She was looking for footmen, to walk beside her carriage.

They applied and were very happy to be flown to London for an interview with Her Majesty.

HM said to them: “Because my footmen must wear long white stockings, I must see your ankles to be sure they are not swollen or misshapen."

After they show her their ankles, the Queen said: “It is also important that you don’t have knobby knees, so I need to see your knees too.”

Once she has seen their knees, she says: “Now everything appears to be in shape, so I just need to see your testimonials.”

Nine years later, when the pair are released from prison, one of the blokes said to the other:

”I reckon, if we’d just had just a bit more education, we would have got that job!”

10 years younger

A little girl was at a wedding with her parents.
Slightly confused, after the nupitals, she asked her mother why the bride changed her mind.

“What do you mean?” responded her mother, looking perplexed.

“Well,” the little girl, with the kind of observational powers only a child can manage. “She went down the aisle with one man and came back with another!”

My ten-month-old was sitting in her high chair, twisting and moving all over the place. My wife who was trying to feed her said to me, "Straighten her up."

I looked at my daughter and said, "What are you doing with your life? Do you want to be this way forever? It's time to grow up and take some responsibility."

My wife hasn't asked me to help with her since.

I was in a couple's home trying to fix their Internet connection. The husband called out to his wife in the other room for the computer password. "Start with a capital S, then 123," she shouted back.

We tried S123 several times, but it didn't work. So we called the wife in. As she input the password, she muttered, "I really don't know what's so difficult about typing 'Start123.'"

Other passengers started to scream. Suddenly, the pilot ran from the cockpit, opened one of the overhead lockers and pulled out a parachute, then quickly strapped it on his back.

“Don’t worry!" he yelled at the passengers, as they now sat silent and aghast. "I’m going for help!"
