I think it would be good for the Club to organize a childrens’ meeting every school holidays and I will raise this further at future meetings. Barry Moran and his grandchildren were an apology from the meeting as Barry was in Gippsland assisting with the fire fighting, well done Barry.
Future Guest Speakers and Fun Sessions - We will have our first guest speaker for 2020 at our January 29 meeting. For the remaining weeks of February and into March the following members are rostered to either give a presentation or to organize another guest speaker. The fun session roster is also listed. Could members please advise me in advance if they have organized another speaker? Our February 5 and February 12 Guest speaker sessions are now filled.

Peace Concert and Nominations for Rotary Peace Awards – The Peace Concert will be held at the Lighthouse Theatre on Thursday March 5th. As a Club we need to nominate several people in different categories for the Rotary Community Peace Awards (please refer to circulated email). The categories are Youth, Adult, Rotarian and Organization and we only have one week left to nominate our candidates. Please email me any of your suggestions and we will discuss further at next weeks’ meeting. The Peace Concert sells out very quickly so I would suggest if you haven’t already done so to reserve your tickets through the Lighthouse Theatre.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – It has just been announced that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will extend their fundraising partnership with Rotary, matching donations to Rotary’s PolioPlus program 2-1, up to $50million dollars every year.
Foundation Movie Night – Daybreak will be holding another movie night to support the Foundation, possibly in May. Sue is busy organizing the details of movies on offer and dates. More information will be circulated to members at future meetings.
Grant Writing Seminars – While we are very fortunate to have Glenn assist us with our grant applications, other clubs are not as fortunate. Hence Rotary has organized three grant writing seminars for members of Rotary in or District. The cost to members is $28 and you can register on the District website (front page). Daybreak will cover the cost for any of its members if they register. Grant writing is a skill that can be utilized in various occupations and could be beneficial to have this seminar listed on your CV. The locations and dates for the seminars are listed below:

New in the Learning Centre – There are two new public image courses located in the Learning Centre. The first is The Rotary Brand where members will learn about the Rotary Brand, why it matters and how to properly use the brand. The second course is Building Rotary’S Public Image where you will learn the value of public image and the strategies you can use to increase understanding of Rotary in your community.
Toastmasters and Rotary – At last week’s meeting I spoke about Rotary’s new alignment with Toastmasters and it seems the local version of a Toastmasters Club is Rostrum. It could be beneficial for us to have a representative of Rostrum Warrnambool attend one of our meetings and inform us on the structure of their Club and also their connection to Toastmasters. If Daybreak members are rostered for an upcoming Guest Speaker session they may wish to follow this up for a Guest Speaker session.
The Care Program– The Care Program is operating well in the Timor Street location with numbers remaining steady. Our roster is full through to February 9. Please see Glenn or Ian if you can assist after this date. The roster will also be circulated at weekly meetings.
Summer Night Markets (BBQ) and other upcoming service projects – We have now completed our summer market barbecues. Many thanks to Ian and all the members who rostered themselves to assist over the past four weeks, you all did a great job and helped raise quite a bit of money that will no doubt be distributed to our community in due course.
The Australia Day barbecue is scheduled at the Botanic Gardens this Sunday January 26 and we will also be cooking the Wunta Breakfast on the Civic Green on Friday morning January 31. Rosters for the Wunta Breakfast will be circulated at next week’s meeting. We are doing this event as a community service project with all proceeds from the breakfast to be directed from the Wunta Committee to the Bushfire Appeal.
The Long Lunch – Jenny, Sandra and Janey are well on their way in organizing aspects of the Long Lunch event. The tickets have now been printed and are available from Jenny. The tickets were generously donated by Star printing which is much appreciated by the Club. This is always a fun filled day with fine food and provides a great opportunity for fellowship amongst our Club and members of the wider community. We have music once more at this years’ event so bring your dancing shoes!
The dinner auctioned last year and donated by Andrew Robb will be held this weekend. We thank Andrew for his donation and also Barry and Lydia for offering their assistance with the dinner.

Well Australia Day signals the end of January, where did it go? Our members have once again risen to the challenge of a busy month of projects with great success, not only swelling our coffers but connecting with our community.
