President's Chat
Liza's Chat 43
Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 43.  We are now into the month of May which is Youth Service Month on the Rotary Calendar.

Waffle with Wine Meetings – our meetings are continuing every Friday evening via the Zoom platform and we are maintaining good attendance with nearly 50% of members participating on any given week.  Last week Janey and Chris took members back in time to a District Conference when Daybreakers participating dressed up as James Bond Moonraker characters; Janey and Chris sporting their costumes again for our recent Zoom meeting.

We have had some feedback from members relating to how the meetings should be conducted i.e., raising your hand to the Chair if you wish to speak and waiting for the current speaker to finish etc.  Also you can mute your microphone while other discussion is taking place then turn it on when you wish to speak, this cuts down any extra noise that may be in your particular room.  These points have been circulated to members by Glenn and will be discussed at upcoming meetings.

Induction Meeting – I am pleased to report that Daybreak inducted new member Jennie Miller at a special Zoom meeting on Wednesday April 29. Jennie’s classification is HR Consultant and she will assist within the Foundation Committee of Daybreak.  It was pleasing that we had fifteen members participate in welcoming Jennie to our Club and it was lovely to see Lydia online as one of these members.  We also welcomed AG John Clue to the meeting.  We thank Lydia for presenting Jennie with a gift and it is envisaged that at a later date when current restrictions are eased the Club will have a celebration and a handing over of pin, dinner badge and certificate to Jennie. Welcome Jennie to the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Daybreak.  I hope you enjoy your service and friendship of members for many years to come.

After the official part of the evening and toward the end of the meeting we had a few laughs as members seemed eager to include their pets, and some their teddy bears, on the meeting frame!  Welcome Jennie and I hope we didn’t overwhelm you with our eagerness.

Bowelscan Month – May is Rotary Bowelscan Month, but kits will not be available in pharmacies this year.  However they are still available at www.rotarybowelscan.com.au at a cost of $20.  Pass the word on and help save a life.

District Meeting and Assembly - Thank you to the members that participated in the meeting last Sunday and also the special meeting to launch the online Assembly last Thursday evening to which all members received an invitation.   The Assembly will take place solely online during the month of May.  As training sessions become available, Secretary Cheryl will notify members with any relevant links that are circulated from District.

2020 Rotary Virtual Convention – As the Rotary International Conference was cancelled, RI have decided to hold a virtual convention from June 20-26.  This will be a great opportunity to participate in an event that will truly signal Rotary as Connecting the World and you will be able to do this from your own house.  We will circulate more about this event as it is circulated from RI.

Anzac day – We thank PE Peter Cassady for laying the Daybreak wreath at the Warrnambool War Memorial on Anzac Day.  You certainly looked the goods Peter, very dapper in suit and medals.

Membership – Peter Smid has been busy constructing a couple of small ads for the Standard that will appear in a couple of Tuesday editions of the Standard.  Good job Peter; let’s hope we get some interest from the community.

Care Program Update – We had a good article on the Care Program published in the Warrnambool Standard on Friday May 1.  Glenn and Harpo have been working behind the scenes to ensure that Anglicare are aware of how the program operates.  Glenn has also received confirmation from Wannon Water that the grant funds for the program can be extended into the new Rotary year.  Anglicare intend of packing some food items for distribution to Care Program clients and this is an area where Daybreak may be able to assist.  Please contact Glenn if you are able to assist in the packing of items for distribution.  Anglicare are also calling for Community volunteers to assist with the program while Daybreak members are unable to volunteer for the face to face contact part of the program.  Anglicare is recommencing the Care Program from Sunday May 3.  Glenn and Harpo will be available via phone for the first couple of weeks of the program for advice in case there are any issues that arise.

Changeover – It’s looking more likely that we will be having a virtual changeover into the 20-21 Rotary year.  I have had a good article forwarded to be on how a virtual changeover could be structured and I will email forward to all members for your discussion and feedback.

Updating Details – Secretary Cheryl has been busy preparing for the 2020-21 Rotary year.  Please make sure that all your details on Clubrunner are up to date and that you know your login and passwords for both Clubrunner and Club Central/My Rotary as this will make her job much easier. If you do not know these details please contact Clubrunner who will be able to assist you.

Birthdays and Anniversaries – We have no birthdays or anniversaries recorded on the Daybreak database for the coming week.  If I have missed someone’s birthday it means that the date is not recorded on your details/profile entered into Clubrunner, if that’s the case log in to Clubrunner and add the relevant details.  You may also add your partner’s birthday and your wedding anniversary.

I do hope that it is not too long before some restrictions are lifted and we can again have some face to face contact.  In the meantime it is important to stay connected with family, friends and other members of your Rotary family.

I hope to see you participating in one of our Zoom meetings.

Liza

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

I’m as bored as an Amish electrician.

Today’s Weather? Room temperature.

This is stupid.  I just tried to make my own hand sanitizer and it came out as a rum & coke!

After a few days of not going out, I saw someone I knew walking by on the sidewalk outside. I immediately ran to the window and started yelling to them.
Now I understand dogs.

An English fellow was thrilled to have just moved into a council house. All the houses in the street were identical. The chap introduced himself to his immediate neighbour. Man No 2 mentioned he wanted to wall paper his lounge room. Man No1 said he had just done his and to come and have a look.

They were discussing that both houses were identical and so would need the same number of rolls of paper. Man No1 said he had bought 24 rolls.

A week later Man No2 knocked on his neighbour's door. He said how happy he was with the advice but he couldn't figure out how he had ended up with four rolls of wall paper left over.

Man No1 says " That's a coincidence that's the same number of rolls I had left over.

We’re locked in our home in Glen Iris,
In the hope of avoiding the virus.
But there's one shaft of light
In this season of blight
We’re retirees, so no one can fire us!

Today is my wife's birthday. I said to her "Can I get you a diamond necklace for your birthday?"

She said: "Nothing would please me more!"

So I got her nothing.

I started work today at a factory making models of Dracula. There's only two of us on that line, so I have to make every second count.

The bride was anything but a tidy housekeeper. It didn't bother her much until one evening when her husband called from the hall, somewhat dismayed: "Honey, what happened to the dust on this table? I had a phone number written on it."
