Glenn to take this to WCC to see if we can use this with our Care Project - Emails
After reading the comments from the Survey I distributed regarding too many emails that weren’t relevant, I spoke with Cheryl and decided that Cheryl will distribute our newsletter, 9780 newsletter and any correspondence that members need to know about. The relevant emails of each Avenue of Service will be sent to the appropriate Director. - Coast Guard Rotary Logo
The Coast Guard Rescue Unit has been refurbished and repainted. The Rescue Boat had the Rotary Logo affixed to it. It now has to have a new logo affixed to the boat. We have been approached by Glenn Brotchie about the Logo and wanted to know if we wanted to assist with the cost. The Board decided to see what the cost would be and then make a decision. - Care Program
Meeting with WCC on Monday 19th July. Sunday 11th July our services were not required as no one turned up. Need to ‘advertise’ that we are operating again. - Guest Speaker
Sandra Batten is looking for assistance to co-ordinate our guest speakers. Are you able to help? - Rosters
To organise our different projects we are looking for members to help us. The task is to look after certain rosters. Like above - Corporate Membership
Sandra touched on Corporate membership and gave us an insight of what it entailed. Sandra will be attending the District membership meeting on the 19th July which will cover Corporate Membership and report back her findings to the next Board meeting. - Film Night
Peter Smid spoke to us about a film night, the film he suggested was Respect. However Sergio mentioned that Inner Wheel were looking at the same film. Sergio will talk with his wife Jenny to see if we can help with the sale of tickets, which we would take our share of the proceeds. Sergio will report back to Board. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL Rotary Projects Around the Globe USA After hundreds of Rotary clubs in Zones 33 and 34 provided millions of meals to community members in need during the inaugural year of their Feed 10 Million initiative in 2019-20, District 6910 in northern Georgia is serving up a generous portion in the food drive’s second year. As of late April, the district had provided more than 2 million meals. District 6910 coordinated with the Farmers to Families “The food is paid for by the government. We provide the organization, the volunteers, and the connectivity in the local community to make sure it goes to the people who need it.” Nicaragua In the city of Chinandega, impoverished children scavenge at a garbage dump in search of items to resell. Frank Huezo, now a member of the Rotary Club of Kingwood, Texas, introduced his former club, the Rotary Club of Lake Houston Area, to the work of a local nonprofit called Fundación Chinandega 2001, which helps the children. Rotary members helped build a trade school, which trains students in practical skills such as woodworking, metalworking, welding, digital photography, and sewing. Funding from an expanding network of Rotary members in Texas and elsewhere also supported a hospital, a shelter for pregnant women, and a group home that helps blind children transition to mainstream schools. Lithuania To lift the spirits of health workers responding to the pandemic, members of the Rotary Club of Vilniaus sv. Kristoforo treated the staff of Vilnius City Clinical Hospital with pastries “to make them feel appreciated and, hopefully, make them smile a little more often,” says club member Giedrius Sulnius. Over the course of 10 Fridays concluding in late March, the club ordered 600 pastries, at a cost of $825, from a local bakery. “We cannot visit medics, but we can help them feel appreciated,” Rwanda The Rotaract Club of Kie is devoted to helping school children. The club, which has raised money for the Rwandan unit of SOS Children’s Villages, heard about pupils whose families were having a hard time meeting the expenses of public school. The club donated books, pens, a mathematics set, and a school bag for each of 15 students at the GS Gahanga I School, and covered fees and school uniforms. Jordan The Rotary Club of Amman Jordan River is making beautiful music. Club member Rana Rizkallah, maestro of the Youth Orchestra at the National Music Conservancy, assembled talented musicians for a Rotary-sponsored orchestra. For musicians who do not read music but can play by ear, the orchestra offers special classes in music reading, which Rizkallah notes might open up career opportunities. “the goals of the orchestra include offering in-house entertainment for all events and activities we organize, to save the cost of getting outside entertainment,” says Rizkallah. LGBT During a breakout session on “Welcoming the LGBTQ Community Into the Family of Rotary” during the 2017 Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Michelle Wilson, a member of the Rotary Club of Athens Sunrise, Ohio, had a question. “I asked, ‘Why doesn’t Rotary have a group for LGBT+ people?’” When she added, “We should start one,” she says, “the response was overwhelming.” Before the session had even ended, Sean O’Hara, a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Charles Happy Hour, Louisiana (and later the fellowship’s first president), had opened a Facebook group for LGBT people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender). Wilson left the meeting with a stack of business cards from people who wanted to be part of the new group. The LGBT Rotarians and Friends Fellowship was born.
