President's Chat
Steve's Chat 20
Hello Daybreakers,

Our guest speakers this week were Ross Atkinson and Steve Tippett from the Warrnambool Volunteer Coast Guard (VF16-Warrnambool).

Ross and Steve updated us on all the various matters of rescue, infrared search technology, first aid and seamanship, and all at a national standard.  Its hard to imagine the amount of training that these volunteers must go through to keep up to date with new technology and rescue techniques.

But despite the rigorous training and expensive equipment required, the coast guard's efforts have never had ongoing government funding.  The boys thanked us and all local Rotarians for our ongoing support.

Our guest speaker on Wednesday 24th will be Ann Morris, Ann will be speaking on the “Insulin for Life” Project. https://www.insulinforlife.org.au/

Many Rotarians are active in causes like eradicating polio, providing clean water and developing economies. Rotarians can also be examples in leading, preventing and managing diabetes. The following link is to an article of one person’s journey against diabetes.

We have spoken in recent times about Rotary Action Groups.  This is the link to the web site of the diabetes action group.  http://ragdiabetes.org/

The meeting on Wednesday also marks World Polio Day.  At Rotary’s 6th annual World Polio Day event in Philadelphia, Rotary will highlight the steps that are getting us closer to our goal of ending polio.

In 1988 the paralysing disease affected 350,000 children. Rotary’s collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, local health workers, and national governments has helped reduce the number to just 16 cases so far this year.

World Polio Day is observed in late October to honour the birthday of Dr. Jonas Salk, who led the development of the first polio vaccine.

Surfside Program Reports

14th October

Hello everyone.
Harpo reports that they had 3 males and 1 female attend yesterday.
The lady had a shower and the blokes dried some clothes. They spent $7 which will be refunded next week.
The last of Watto's snags went down well.
Thanks to Harpo, Janey, Chris and Sandra.
Sounds like it was a well worthwhile afternoon.
Cheers
Glenn

21st October

Hello everyone.
We had 4 males and 2 females attend yesterday. A record!
The ladies had showers, as did 3 of the blokes. There were 6 loads of washing done and 3 dryer loads. We spent $23 which will be refunded next week.
Bob had his first BBQ for the year and diligently cooked the snags. He must be out of practice cos he couldn't get the BBQ as clean as it was before we started. Obviously needs a little more training and experience.
The lady who had the cold shower last week was back and brought a mud-cake to share.
They all appreciate what we are doing.
Thanks to Bob and Sue for this afternoon - and Sandra for some bickies, and Steve for the snags.
Cheers
Glenn

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

After 10 years, the wife starts to think their kid looks kind of strange so she decides to do a DNA test. She finds out that the kid is actually from completely different parents.

Wife:  Honey, I have something very serious to tell you.
Husband: What's up?

Wife: According to DNA test results, this is not our kid...

Husband: Well you don't remember, do you? When we were leaving the hospital, you noticed that our baby had pooped, then you said: "Please go change the baby, I'll wait for you here."

So I went inside, got a clean one and left the dirty one there.

Moral of the story: Never give a man a job for which he is not qualified.

Thoughts to ponder …

'I am' is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that 'I do' is the longest sentence?

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?

I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks so I wondered if Chinese mothers use toothpicks?

Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post    Office? What are we supposed to do, write to them?   Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the postmen can look for them while they deliver the post?

You never really learn to swear until you learn to drive.

No one ever says, 'It's only a game' when their team is winning

Ever wonder about those people who spend ten Dollars a piece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backwards:

Isn't making a smoking section in a restaurant like making a peeing section in a swimming pool?

If 4 out of 5 people suffer from diarrhoea, does that mean that one enjoys it?

Why if you send something by road it is called a shipment, but when you send it by sea it is called cargo?

When Barry came home, his wife Mary was crying.  “Your Mother insulted me,” she sobbed.

“My Mother?”, spluttered Barry.  “How could she do that when she is on holiday on the other side of the world?”

“I know,” Mary gulped.  ”But this morning a letter addressed to you arrived.  I opened it because I was curious.”

“And?”

“At the end of the letter it said: ‘Dear Mary, when you have finished reading this letter, don’t forget to give it to my son Barry’”
