Hello Daybreakers,

It was wonderful to have our RYLA candidate Charlotte Cossens with our member Drew Giblin attend our breakfast meeting on 24 May 2023.

Charlotte gave us a great insight to the RYLA program and the camp at Kangaroobie held in April this year. Charlotte is a People and Culture Officer at WDEA under the supervision of Drew Giblin.

As Charlotte explained, on arrival at the camp she was anxious and nervous and shy.

Over the next six days she developed confidence, self -assurance and self-awareness.

The activities at the camp are to put them outside of their comfort zone and to grow within themselves and be confident leaders.

Charlotte made an interesting statement that she was able to grow in a safe and comfortable space.

Even over six days she thought the program is life changing. What a wonderful program for young people to participate. Charlotte, upon questioning about what goals she has set herself, made reference to happiness and inner happiness is certainly an important feature of one’s existence and drive. Inner happiness then develops into confidence and confidence develops into leadership. In team meetings, she now feels more confident to express her views in a respectful manner.

I would like to thank our member Drew for sourcing our candidates and as he put it, it is a wonderful program that WDEA will continue to participate and provide candidates for their own development programs.

We have some members who will be attending Rotary International Convention commencing on 26 May 2023 until 30 May 2023 in Melbourne at the Convention Centre. We look forward to their reports in the following week.

As soup kitchen volunteering continues and the last session will be on 29 May 2023, I would like to thank all members participating and volunteering for this wonderful program.

Lastly, we got the results of our Long Lunch fundraising event and it was fantastic that we have raised a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause, Loved and Shared and again well done to the Long Lunch Committee and of course Sandra for all her hard work.

So, Let’s Imagine Rotary.

Your President,
Sergio Bacchetti

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

98-year-old Mother Superior from Ireland was dying.
The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable.
They tried giving her some warm milk to drink but she refused it.

One of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen and remembering a bottle of
Irish Whiskey received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened it and poured
A generous amount into the warm milk.

Back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little,
then a little more and before they knew it, she had drank the whole glass down to the
last drop.

"Mother," the nuns asked with earnest, "please give us some wisdom before you die."

She raised herself up in bed and said, "Don't sell that cow."

-------------------------------------------------------------

‘Where is everybody?" the cowpoke asks.

"They've all gone to see Brown Paper Pete hang," says a bystander.

"Why do they call him that?" the cowboy asks.

"Well, he always wears a brown paper hat, a brown paper shirt, and brown paper trousers."

"Really?" says the cowboy. "And what are they hanging him for?"

"Rustling."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hung Chow calls into work and says, "Hey, I no come work today, I rearry sick. Got headache,
stomach ache and legs hurt, I no come work." The boss says, "You know something, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel like this, I go to my wife
and tell her to make love to me. That makes everything better and I go to work. You try that."

Two hours later Hung Chow calls again. "I do what you say and I feel great! I be at work soon. . . You got nice house!"

-------------------------------------------------------------

Guy arrives home very much the worse for wear..."Where have you been?"
asks his wife..."I've been at the opening of the new pub" slurs the hubby "The doors are gold, the bar is all gold even the urinals are gold"...the wife puts
him to bed but can't believe his story so next day rings the new pub...

“Is it true that the doors are gold and the bar is all gold ?"...
"Yes madam they're covered in 24ct gold"...
"and is it true that your urinals are gold?" asks the wife...

There is a long pause then she hears the guy at the end of the phone call out " Harry, I've got a lead on who peeed in your saxophone last night"
