Weekly Meeting – We had a very full meeting last Wednesday with good attendance and it seemed like three guest speakers. Our Guest presenter, organized by Chris and Janey was Jessica Freeman, Manager of Ingenia Gardens Retirement Village which is a gated complex in North Warrnambool. Jessica outlined all aspects and options of the retirement village and fielded many questions from the members. For some reason members seemed more interested when they heard the complex bordered Dan Murphy’s! Jessica also left several booklets on the village for our members, so please see Janey if you would like a copy.

We also heard from Ian Watson regarding the vehicle he has purchased for the PNG Water and Education Projects. Dubbed the Unimog, the truck is a 30 year old Mercedes but is in very good condition both internally and externally with 6300 kms on the clock. Ian purchased the vehicle out of his own funds and is to be highly commended for his generosity towards this project. The truck will be well suited to the terrain of PNG and has a 6 ton lifting capacity crane located behind the cabin which will be beneficial for many aspects of the water and education projects. Well done Ian.
Barry Moran recently volunteered in the Gippsland fire affected area and told us of the hardships experienced and of the indiscriminate nature of the fires, in particular where one house remained untouched with no apparent reason while others surrounding it were burnt to the ground. He also told us of the loss of livestock and other animals and how authorities were dealing with this and other ongoing issues, such as smouldering peat, in the aftermath of the fires.
Future Guest Speakers and Fun Sessions – Listed below are the guest presenter and fun session roster for the weeks of February and into March. The rostered members are to either give a presentation or to organize another guest speaker. Remember that it can be just as interesting to hear the life story of one of our members, so don’t be too shy to speak about yourselves as it gives our newer members an insight into who you are and your life journey. Please advise me in advance if you have organized another speaker for your rostered session.

The Australia Day BBQ held at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday January 26 went quite well with over 200 dim sims sold alongside many cans of drink. There has been some discussion regarding extending our menu for this event next year. If you have any ideas on what we could offer for sale please speak with Ian Harper.
