Guest Speakers - Our guest speaker this week was Steve Giddens, Commander from the CFA. Steve recently spent a week working with crews on the NSW fire front. He provided a very informative session on the nature of fighting these fires and the unpredictability of fires under certain weather conditions. Steve also gave some useful tips for being prepared if one faced a fire evacuation situation, in particular the earlier preparation of a USB that contains personal information that will enable you to obtain benefits without delay. The USB should contain your passport or birth certificate, insurance details, rates notice, bank accounts, medicare numbers etc.; it is literally your life on a stick!
Last week we ran out of time for Di Brown’s Fun Session, but Di was in full swing this week and had all the members painting and creating their own Christmas decorations. Well done Di, the members had a real fun session.
Tony Austin from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool will join us for next week’s meeting which will be held at Betty and Andrew Suggett’s house. During the meeting Daybreak will present Tony with a donation toward the PNG Water and Education projects. Members are reminded to bring their own chair. The cost of the breakfast will be $15 per person with RSVP to Jan for catering purposes. Christmas Break up – The Christmas break-up dinner was held at Cheryl’s house last Saturday evening and what a great night it was with twenty people attending. Thanks to Chez for offering her house and to Jan who did an amazing job of the catering, as usual. Thanks also to Ali and Ian H for assisting Chez with the set up before and after the event. There were many laughs had on the night and I hope we can have more social gatherings as we head into the second half of the Rotary year.
The Care Project – Last weekend saw six clients using the laundry and shower facilities provided. The program will move to the F Project and commercial laundry facilities in Timor Street on December 22 for the summer period when the amenities block at Surf Side Two Park becomes unavailable to the program. The program would be grateful for donations of shower products for the clients to use and also towels if anyone has an excess.
Request from The Rotary Club of Warrnambool East – The Hole in One Competition run by RCW East is one of the Club’s biggest fundraisers and runs from December 26 through to January 25. The Club has put out a call to other Clubs in the area to assist on their roster as it has become increasingly difficult for their Club to fully staff the event. The Club has decided that at the close of the competition other Clubs assisting will be recognised with a fair and reasonable financial contribution given to their Club, based on the numbers of people and hours provided. The shifts are from 10am – 2pm or 2pm – 6pm. If any Daybreak members can assist, please let me know and I will forward your contact details to Rotary East. Because the event takes place over a month long period, even one shift would assist the Club in staging this event. Foundation Contributions – (as circulated by Brian Trennery Chair DRFCC) many have been asking to where they should send their Foundation contributions. I apologise for not having the correct contact details on the web site and contribution forms that accompany your contributions but that has changed.

Birthdays and Anniversaries
Bill Sinclair, husband of Lydia reaches quite a milestone on Sunday December 15 when he reaches one hundred years of age. Congratulations Bill and Lydia, this is quite an achievement! Best wishes for a great celebration.
On December 6, Anne Barker celebrated a birthday and on Dec 12, Ronika, wife of Mehul also celebrated a birthday. Many happy returns to both from all members of Daybreak.
Member updates – Bob Jeans is recuperating well after his hip operation, gaining strength and engaging with his physiotherapy plan. If all goes well Bob may join us for the last meeting of the year.
Further afar Geoff is enjoying his overseas trip. Having finished his cruise of the Panama Canal, Geoff is now in the United Kingdom readying to celebrate Christmas with his family. He has sent a picture of his son-in-law performing in a pub in England.
