President's Chat
Liza's Chat 16
Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin number 16.

Daybreak News - Our Guest speakers at this week’s meeting were Murray Kingsley and Lindsay Stowe from Salvos Connect.  Murray and Lindsay gave us some good pointers on communicating with vulnerable people which may come in handy considering some of the service projects we become involved with.  Members also enjoyed the musical component of their session.

Sergio was to give us an overview of his recent trip but owing to some technical issue that will be held over to next week if we have time.  District Governor Roseanne Kava will address our meeting next week and will take questions from the Members, so please come prepared if you have some queries regarding Rotary.

It was also lovely to welcome Cheryl back to our meeting this week.  As usual she was full of smiles and is taking her recuperation period in her stride.

Lift the Lid/Bunnings Project – We are very appreciative of the assistance given by other Rotary Clubs in joining us to raise funds at Bunnings for Lift the Lid on Mental Awareness, held on the weekend of October 5-6.  Other participating Clubs were Warrnambool, Warrnambool East and Port Fairy.  On Saturday we raised the total of $789.15 and on Sunday the total of $308.40 giving a total pool of $1097.55 for the weekend. The money will be deposited on behalf of the four participating Clubs.  Bunnings have said their foot traffic was also down on the Sunday given the weather was not as good as the Saturday.  Special thanks must go to Ali Dennis and Ian Harper for organizing Daybreak’s hampers and to Peter Cassady, Barry Brooker and Jenny Turner for giving their time to staff the raffle table on our rostered sessions.

All Hampers were delivered to the winners on Monday Oct 7. The winners of the hampers were:

Garden Handyman Hamper - Anne Keane (Koroit)
Plant and Bunnings voucher - Susan Womball (Wbool)
Food and Wine Hamper 1 - Emily Blomfield (Camperdown)
Food and Wine Hamper 2 - Glenda Kelly (Wbool)
Cheese Hamper - Chris Ronald (Wbool)
Fruit and Vegie Hamper - Laurence Wood (Wbool)
Gift x 2 Hamper - Glenda Smith (Panmure)

Board Meeting – The Board has had a change of meeting schedule and will now meet at 7pm on the third Tuesday of each month commencing next Tuesday October 15.  This change will facilitate more members attending. The meeting venue will remain at 38 Kelp Street Warrnambool unless members are notified otherwise.  A reminder that Board Members will meet with DG Rosanne Kava at conclusion of our weekly meeting on October 16 at the Lady Bay.

World Polio Day Breakfast – Thank you to the members who placed their name on the roster for the World Polio Day Breakfast to be held at The Lawn Tennis Club, Pertobe Road on Thursday October 24.  This event is coming upon us quickly and will take some work by members to make it a success.  The cost is $20 per head and members can pay eft online (see attached poster for details).  We are having a good response by the other Group 5 Clubs who have been invited.  The meeting will take the place of our usual Wednesday meeting.

WCC BBQ – Warrnambool City Council has requested the assistance of Daybreak in holding a BBQ on Sunday October 27 at the South Warrnambool Football.  This event is in association with a Welcome to Warrnambool Forum the Moyne Warrnambool Road Share Group are holding for International workers who have come to live in Warrnambool Club.  The BBQ will occur between 12-1pm and will cater for approximately 300 people.  The Warrnambool City Council will provide the food (sausages and bread) and will make a donation to Daybreak.  A roster for this event will be circulated at our weekly meeting.

New Marquee – The new marquee equipped with Rotary Daybreak signage has arrived and survived its first test set up.  It looks fantastic and is sure to be appreciated by members this coming summer for our major fundraising events.  Thanks to Glenn and the team for organizing the funding and purchase of the marquee.  I understand renovations to the trailer are also well under way.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave.
As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin.
3 hours later and they're still walking about with it.
I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!!

My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were £70!!!

Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.

Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarfs are not Happy.

My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30am this morning, can you believe that 2:30am?!
Luckily for him, I was still up playing my Bagpipes.

Local Police hunting the 'knitting needle nutter', who has stabbed six people in the rear in the last 48 hours, believe the attacker could be following some kind of pattern.

Paddy was a youthful and hardworking Irishman at a Coastal village in Ireland.

Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works. He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time.

Sadly, Paddy did not realise the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart.

One day he failed to come home, so his wife contacted the Police to investigate him being missing.

They rowed out and found Paddy dead in the punt beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he'd tried to hoist aboard.

Headlines next day in the 'Irish Times Newspaper' said........................................
 Wait for it!

OYSTERS KILPATRICK !!!!

A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey, I have been asked to fly to Cairns with my boss and several of his friends for fishing.. We'll be gone for a long weekend. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I've been wanting so could you please pack enough clothes for a 3 day weekend".....

And also would you get out my rod and tackle box from the attic ?

We're leaving at 4:30 pm from the office and I will swing by the house to pick my things up..

'Oh! And please pack my new navy blue silk pajamas..'

The wife thinks this sounds a bit odd, but, being the good wife,

She does exactly what her husband asked.

Following the long weekend he came home a little tired, but, otherwise, looking good. The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught many fish?

He says, 'Yes! Lots of Bream, some Bass, and a few Pike.

He said but why didn't you pack my new blue silk pajamas like I asked you to do?

You'll love the answer………

The wife replies, "I did, they're in your tackle box".

A first year kid goes to school with his shoes on the wrong feet.

"Johnny", says the teacher, "you have your shoes on the wrong feet"

The kid looks up puzzled "But Miss,
these are the only feet I have"

An applicant for a job with the federal government was filling out the application form.

He came to this question: "Do you favor the overthrow of the Australian government by force, subversion, or violence?"

Thinking it was a multiple-choice question, he checked "Subversion."
