Hello Daybreakers,

At this week’s meeting Sue Cassidy took us on a journey through her upbringing and moved on to her education and professional development including working in the UK before coming back home to meet and marry David.   As we all know Sue has a well-established business and is on several boards across our community, and let’s not forget she is also a respected councilor and perhaps future Mayor of the city.  Thank you Sue I enjoyed your presentation and still can’t believe that you can find the time to be bored 😊

Bob Jeans took us on a Journey with his “Where in the World” is Bob Q&A.  It was a whirlwind trip and Bob had many of us perplexed with his questions, Serge chimed in with several answers until Janey managed to get him under control.  Thankfully, a number of members kept pace and listened intently.  The eventual lucky winner was Gerard.

Hillside Market.  At our board meeting on Thursday it was decided not to attend at the market being held on December 23rd.

Homeless Program.  This week we had 6 people attend. The showers washing machines and dryers were given a good workout. Glenn, Ann, Jenny and Harpo attended, and I got some practice cooking snags leading up to our summer markets.  Sherril McKay popped in to drop off some books and stayed for a snag and a chat, it was great to see her, and we all enjoyed her company.  Towards the end of the day Bob interrupted his walk for long enough to pop in and say hello.

The club’s commitment to this program continues.  During the summer months we are running the program from the Timor Street Laundromat and the F Project premises.  Please continue to support Glenn as the roster is circulated.

A reminder that the last club meeting for the calendar year will be our Christmas meeting held at Andrew & Betty Sugget’s on Wednesday December 19th. I look forward to catching up with those that are able to attend.  Please bring a chair.

Our first meeting of the new calendar year will be at the Mid City on Wednesday January 9th. Glenn is trying to lock in WDEA as our guest speaker.

Leading up to our January board meeting we will be reviewing account balances and allocated funds awaiting distribution.  We will also consider current funding request at this meeting.

If you have a local or international program that you wish the board to review through our adopted policy process, please send your request and program details to either myself or Secretary Mary by January 3rd.

December is Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment Month.  Rotary has a longstanding commitment to fighting and preventing diseases.

Rotary members have played a key role in bringing the world to the brink of polio eradication. Our members have not only helped end polio in 122 countries but also created a system for addressing many other health priorities, like Ebola. Rotary clubs lead efforts to fight diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. Clubs also focus on disease prevention by providing health education and bringing routine hearing, vision, and dental care to those in need.

If you have the time, you can join the Disease Prevention and Treatment discussion group on My Rotary to learn from experts and exchange project ideas with fellow Rotarians.

I told my husband that our daughter and her husband were going to drive to a Jon Bon Jovi concert.
“I hope they don’t get half-way there, living on a prayer,” he grinned!
