January is Rotary International's Vocational Service Month, a time to promote high ethical standards, recognize the worth of all useful occupations, and use professional skills to serve society, focusing on integrity, mentorship, and community betterment through projects and career development. It's a key focus area for Rotarians, highlighting their jobs as opportunities to give back and build stronger communities.

Great Effort , Great Results
Thanks to the Bbq organising committee and all those that filled the rosters each week.
Also I would like to thank a couple of members that just do what is needed for our events and projects.
Past member (Past President) Stephen Bellamy who has still been quietly working in the background for us on any bbq event.
Stephen organises the Total Fire Ban Permits well in advance to cover all off January for the summer markets. He also follows up and applies for the Food Trader Permit that we require for all BBQs we do through out the year including Bunnings.

Glenn produces the SWMS forms (Safe Working Method Statement) that we must sign when doing any rotary event or project. This covers all members for insurance purposes and is a compulsory rotary procedure. It clearly shows identified Hazards, Risks and the control method required so all members on duty are aware off.

Our one and only Cheryl Bellman spoke to us about this program that both Daybreak and Spec Savers have been collaborating together for number of years now.
The Daybreak board have now agreed to support Rise to Shine again for a further 4 years.
Since 2012, we have helped nearly 500 children achieve what no one thought possible. This happens because of our generous donors, who believe in helping needy bright children. Donors come from all over Kenya, other African countries, Europe, Australia and North America; The foundation supports children in the Lake Victoria region of Kenya in these counties: Siaya, Homabay, Migori and Kisumu.
In 2012 when we started informally by identifying 12 children of various ages. Some were orphaned, others just very poor, but all clearly had a desire to succeed in education, develop their potential and step out of the cycle of poverty. Today, we are registered as the NGO Rise to Shine education Foundation. Over 500 vulnerable children are now in secondary education or have finished & obtained a high school certificate. We also support 12 young girls in a boarding primary school. We are a private NGO working directly with schools, supported solely by donors; we receive no government funding.
In 2020, we added 65 students in school thanks to our donors. Now we have a waiting list of hundreds of school children from disadvantaged backgrounds, who have completed their primary school education, many have good marks and strongly desire to attend secondary school. Donor funds provide tuition fees, books, uniform, transport, modest shopping and pocket money during the four years of secondary school. Each and every year we have many more deserving children seeking our help – so we seek more funds.
President Elect Ali Dennis is now looking for anyone willing to fill any of the roles for Director positions for her presidential year which officially starts 1st July 2026 and runs to 30 June 2027.
The opportunity to be on the board of Warrnambool Daybreak offers a huge learning experience. All members that have previously held positions are very willing to offer support, guidance and act as mentors to new board members.
Sometimes we just need a little prod to get us out of our comfort zone and then we realise, "its not that hard" and "I've actually learnt new skills."

Our YOUTH Director Liz Bligh will be able to inform you and help guide you through the application process for this marvellous program. Rotarian family members or relatives are able to attend this personal development course.
An evening meal is held on the last night at Kangaroobie and it is well worth attending, just to see the difference and what these young adults will have achieved over the 6 day course. Daybreak usually has its President go to the dinner and a couple of our members also attend the dinner, so hitch a ride on this night and be uplifted.
Fortunate to be able to get the opportunity to tour this facility.
The Deakin Warrnambool Campus is the first place in Australia for this type of dedicated hydrogen research, testing and training facility. With a total program value exceeding $20 million, this should be an exciting place to visit and it falls in with the January Vocational Service Month theme.
Will also be great opportunity to sit and share a meal with rotarians from the Rotary club of Warrnambool at The Flying Horse.
