It was interesting to hear about the various aspects of the project in particular the drainage system advocated for the oval and how it will work across the surface of the field. Negotiations are ongoing with funding bodies and the proposed sporting groups that will utilise the facilities to be built and we look forward to having Paula and Mel return at a later date to provide an update on the project to our Daybreak members.  We were very pleased to welcome a guest Rotarian to our weekly meeting, Colin Aldis, President of the Rotary Club of Rochester which is located in Minnesota USA. Colin briefed us on his Rotary Club which has approximately 150 members and is one of three Rotary Clubs in Rochester, the other Clubs being Greater Rochester Rotary Club and the Rochester Rotary Risers. Colin said his Club’s biggest fundraising event they organize is an annual basketball tournament for their region which raises substantial funds. We rarely get visiting Rotarians from other countries so we were delighted to welcome Colin to our meeting. We also had a very healthy fines session with several of our male members being fined for ‘naughty boys’ at our recent Proudfoots social evening. Geoff was also fined for recently realizing he was on the Admin Committee, eight months into our Rotary Year... Good one Geoff! Our speaker next week will be Helen Bayne, Partnership Broker, South West Local Learning & Employment Network Inc., and our fun session will be conducted by Andrew Nield. Future Guest Speakers and Fun Sessions – Listed below are the guest presenter and fun session roster for the weeks of February and into March. The rostered members are to either give a presentation or to organize another guest speaker. Remember that it can be just as interesting to hear the life story of one of our members, so don’t be too shy to speak about yourselves as it gives our newer members an insight into who you are and your life journey. Please advise me in advance if you have organized another speaker for your rostered session. March 11 – Andrew Suggett, Fun Session Mehul Patel March 18 – Jenny Turner, Fun Session Chris Preston March 25 – Max Taylor, Fun Session Janey Preston April 1 - Mr Adee-Jonathan Davidson, Urological Surgeon, Fun Session – Jan Read April 8 – Children’s Day – Easter theme Clean up Australia Day – Due to other commitments Daybreak are unable to join other community members at the usual Clean Up Australia Day on March 1. Alternatively Glenn has organised with the Council that Daybreak members do their clean up two weeks later on Sunday March 15. The meeting place will be our usual location along Aitkins Road and the boys from Clontarf will be joining us for the cleanup. Hopefully we can organize a social get together at the conclusion of the clean up. The Care Program –Eight clients attended Surfside Two Caravan Park last week where the Care Program will be located until mid December 2020. Seven loads of washing and drying were put through the machines and a barbecue along with tea and coffee were available for patrons. Due to other Daybreak commitments we require people for the Care Program roster this coming Sunday. Please contact Glenn if you can assist. Donations of deodorant (both male and female) are welcome, and of course donated clothes as winter approaches will always be accepted. Daybreaks’ Care Program has been one of the projects selected by the District Conference Committee to be featured in a video clip to be played at this years’ conference in Swan Hill. Janey and Chris will be interviewed about the project for the clip and hopefully we can obtain a copy of the short video as it will make good promotional material for Daybreak. Board Meeting – The Board met last Tuesday evening and it was decided to allocate donations to The Seven Women Project in Nepal ($250) to Clontarf to assist in the purchase of a lawn mower as theirs was recently stolen (up to $500). The Wunta Committee have forwarded to Daybreak the money collected at the Wunta Breakfast and as a result Daybreak will forward a cheque for $1500 to the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Bushfire Appeal. The idea of changing our Daybreak shirts to another colour or design was again raised. I put this to the members at our Wednesday meeting, as I did earlier in the Rotary year, and it was again voted down. Members thought the existing colour was good for the work we do, in particular the constant barbecues. The current ones available on Rotary Down Under are a deeper navy than previously and members are welcome to visit this site to order new updated versions of any material available. As part of her role on the Administration Committee, Alison has volunteered to oversee the updating of Daybreak’s current policies and by-laws in keeping with RI standards and is seeking the support of a group of members to assist her. Please contact Alison if you are willing to work with her on this task. The Board also discussed the need to have a weekly meeting allocated to an assembly focussed on Membership. At this stage I am looking at the date of Wednesday April 15 but this date will be confirmed in the coming weeks. As we have passed our busy fundraising period we can hopefully find some time to attend to matters concerning Club infrastructure and membership and it is hoped that all members will be able to contribute ideas to the discussion at this assembly. Bunnings BBQ 2020 – We have recently been notified by Bunnings that Saturday April 25 (ANZAC Day) is available to Daybreak for a Bunnings Fundraising BBQ. As Daybreak has missed out on previous allocation dates we have decided to accept the date offered. Rosters will be circulated to members at our weekly meetings. Please contact Ian if you can assist with filling the roster. ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday and there is no public holiday allocated on the Monday, meaning there will not be a long weekend on this date.  Peace Concert – Chez is currently selling tickets for the Rotary Peace Concert scheduled for Thursday March 5 at the Lighthouse Theatre. Tickets are $40 per head so please contact Chez if you want to attend. Foundation Movie Night – Sue has confirmed the date for our next Foundation Movie Night which will be Thursday May 21 at 7pm. I am Woman which focuses on the story of Helen Reddy and the impact of her iconic song, especially on the feminist movement, is our selected movie. We will be asking members to sell tickets when they become available as this will be a major fundraising event for the Foundation. Group 5 Social Day – Rotary Club of Port Fairy are hosting a Group 5 Social Day on Sunday May 17. More details will be circulated as the program develops but please mark this date in your diary as it is sure to be an enjoyable day. It provides great opportunity to network with the other Rotary club members within the Group 5 district including the Rotary Club of Portland and the Rotary Club of Portland Bay.
