Waffle with Wine Meetings – Daybreak had our first Waffle with Wine Zoom meeting last Friday evening with a total of fourteen participants; two of those did not have full capability of video and voice but that will improve as we all become more familiar with the platform and settings. I have scheduled another meeting for Friday April 10 at 7pm.
As per last week, just click the link in the email that I send you, wait and you will be eventually connected to the meeting. If you are working on a computer, hover your mouse at the bottom of the screen to reveal a task bar that will include a camera and sound icon, make sure both of these are switched on (do not have a line through them). If you are on an ipad or iPhone the task bar may be located elsewhere, at the top or side of your screen. In the top right hand corner of your computer there will be two buttons, speaker view and gallery view, pressing gallery view will give you a tiled screen with everyone’s image that has joined the meeting. Please make sure you are in a room where there is no television playing as it upsets the audio for everyone.
Glenn has set a challenge for this week’s meeting, that is for the best background to a members picture; apparently there is a way to set a background within the program (just like your computer) and I need to explore this more if I am going to rise to the challenge! The Waffle with Wine meetings is a general catch up with members and will be scheduled every Friday night while our usual breakfast meetings are in recession.
Daybreak on Instagram – Peter Smid has been busy setting up Daybreak with an Instagram account. Instagram is a popular platform with younger community members and could be beneficial for Daybreak as we seek new members and to inform the general public what our Club offers. Peter is seeking photos from members showing how we are filling in our days during the COVID-19 lockdown, this could be walking our dogs, playing board games, reading books or dare I say cleaning the oven as I did this week! Please forward your pics to Peter and he will put them online.
Activity in Isolation – Cheryl has contacted Backpak4 Kids to see if we could be of any assistance in light of the COVID-19 and it has been suggested that if some members wish, they could knit blankie's for the various back packs. Cheryl is knitting for 0000-1year size/age. Others that want to participate may wish to choose another age group. Some partners/friends might like to take part in this activity too, so please share the idea. When completed, please contact Cheryl who will advise where the finished products can go for packing/distribution.

Constitution – The District has made some slight amendments to the Constitution earlier circulated to members for approval. Therefore Secretary Cheryl has recirculated the new document to all members who will need to again respond by return email with a yes or no vote. Please reply at your earliest convenience so that the Club can fulfil other administrative obligations reliant relating to the Constitution.
Rotary Grants – In response to Covid-19 Rotary has made some changes to District Grants, Global Grants and Disaster Response Grants and applicants are encouraged to designate funds for a Covid-19 response. The District Grants which may be more relevant to Daybreak now has an extended application deadline of June 15. More details on changes to the various grants and the flexibility in responding to the current situation can be found on the RI website in the Corona Virus Impact page.
Rotary Training – A gentle reminder to members that training modules are on the Learning Centre in Club Central if you wish to undertake training and prepare for your roles in Rotary. It is particularly important for those members taking on Executive positions for the 2020-21 Rotary years that you undertake some form of training in lieu of the cancelled District Training Assembly. Completion certificates can be downloaded and printed on completion of each course.
Birthdays and Anniversaries – Congrats to Chez who will celebrate her birthday on Sunday April 12 and also to Sergio and Jan whose birthdays respectively fall on April 14th and April 16th. Rest assured there would have been a big cake if we were having our usual breakfast meeting. Chris and Janey have recently celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary with Oysters Kilpatrick, prawns in prosciutto and goats cheese caramelized tart. Congratulations and celebrate as best you can.
Flu Injections – A reminder to all our members that the flu injections have arrived in the local Chemists and also in some doctor’s surgeries. The Chemist Flu shot costs $15 and is not quite as strong as the free flu shots the doctors supply.
Assistance - Remember that our Club may be able to provide some form of assistance to those members and their families who may be overwhelmed by their isolation in the current situation. If you are unsure of how to order in food or other supplies or how to contact other services, we have members who could assist you in understanding these processes. Please call Glenn in the first instance on 0417 031 943 and if you can’t reach Glenn, Harpo can be contracted on 0427 941 198. Hopefully we can provide assistance or advice from afar rather than face to face.
Stay safe and stay connected and more importantly at this stage of COVID-19, stay home.
