President's Chat
Liza's Chat 22
Hello Members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 22.

Guest Speakers - At this week’s meeting we were entertained by Sergio Bacchetti who spoke on his recent trip through the centre and down the west coast of Australia.  While the fish seemed scarce, the breathtaking scenery was plentiful with Serge sharing some amazing and colourful images with us.

Next week’s speaker will be John MacInnes from 3WAY FM who will talk about the running of the radio station and its various programs and hopefully he will inform us on how we can gain promotion for Daybreak through the station. Barry Brooker and his granddaughter will conduct a fun session in the latter part of our program. It was also nice to see Mel join us for this week’s meeting.

AGM – In the first part of next week’s meeting we will conduct our AGM, largely for the purpose of accepting the Annual Report which was tabled at the changeover dinner and to ratify any nominations for the Executive for the year 2020-21.  I have emailed the nomination form to all members.  The closing date for nominations is 4pm Tuesday November 26.  If there is more than one nomination for any position a ballot will be conducted at the December 4 meeting.  Please consider what you may be able to offer the Club in these Executive positions and the personal development the positions can offer you, (I feel a little like Uncle Sam here) but please do contact me if you have any queries on the roles.

Membership and Public Image Seminar – A last call has come through from AG John Clue for interested members to register for the seminar scheduled for Saturday November 23 at Port Fairy.  The Port fairy Club are catering for the event and unfortunately it will be cancelled if they don’t receive adequate enrolments. Members can register through the link in the District Newsletter or contact John Clue if you have any difficulties.

Showgrounds Working Bee – Glenn, Harpo and Serge represented Daybreak at the showgrounds working bee last Saturday November 16.  There are still some tasks to complete and the guys will head back there to resume the work this coming Saturday.  If any members can spare some time please contact Glenn for details of time and meeting place.

Care Program and Rosters– The Care Program is retaining a steady base of clients with some new people taking advantage of the shower and laundry facilities the program offers.  Ian Watson has been successful in negotiating the facilities at the F Project for the coming summer period when the amenities block at Surfside Two becomes unavailable to the program.

We are a great group of volunteers at Daybreak but every now and then we fall into a pattern where the same people are doing the work on particular programs such as the Care Program and Meals on Wheels.  Please consider this when the rosters come around at weekly meetings, it is really worthwhile connecting with the people we support.

Update on Bob – Glenn gave us an update on Bob at this week’s meeting and it seems he is home from hospital and in better spirits now he is in his own surroundings.  If you’re reading this Bob, we are all thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Christmas Breakup and Christmas Meeting – An attendance list was circulated at this week’s meeting for the Christmas breakup lunch, scheduled for December 7 at Cheryl’s house.  It seems the timing is bad for many members so Chez has suggested a night time event on the same date, same venue.  We will circulate another attendance sheet to see if that time would suit more members.

I’d like to remind members that our last meeting for the year will be our Christmas breakfast at Andrew and Betty Suggett’s house on Wednesday December 18.  We usually take a group photo at this event so for this reason it would be nice to have good attendance on that day; a reminder to bring your own chair and Christmas spirit (not brandy).

Congratulations  - Birthday wishes go to Alison Dennis who will turn another year older on November 23 and congratulations also to Ann Barker who will celebrate an 11th anniversary as a Rotarian on November 26.

Rosters for the upcoming Summer fundraisers, namely the Friday night market barbecues and movie nights will be circulated at next week’s meeting.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

I have CDO.

It's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, only in alphabetical order like it should be.

The boss was very exasperated with his new secretary. She ignored the telephone when it rang.

"You must answer the telephone," he told her irritably.

"All right," she replied, "but it seems so silly. It's always for you."

A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking."
The cat thought for a minute and then said, "All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on."

God said, "Say no more." Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow.
A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that was made to the cat.

"Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms!" said the mice. "If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again."
"Done," said God All the mice had beautiful little roller skates.

About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. She was lounging on her fluffy pillow. "Is everything okay? How have you been doing?
Are you happy?"
"Oh, it is wonderful," said the cat. "I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and the Meals on Wheels was a nice touch."

"The difference in golf and government is that in golf you can't improve your lie." ---George Deukmejian.

Speaking of golf, I read a book this week called “Commander in Cheat… How golf explains Trump.” By Rick Reilly. Very enlightening.

Chip went to a barber shop for a shave. While the barber was foaming him up, Chip mentioned the problem he has getting a close shave around his cheeks.

"I have just the thing," said the barber, taking a small wooden ball from a nearby drawer. "Just place this between your cheek and gum."

Chip placed the ball in his mouth and received the closest shave he had ever experienced.

After a few strokes, Chip asks in garbled speech "And what if I swallow it?"

"No problem," replied the barber, "Just bring it back tomorrow like everyone else does.
