Our new venue at the RSL, well I have heard some positive comments from members regarding the change. From what I have seen over the last 2 weeks, the meals have been well received and very tasty. As discussed at the board meeting, we will be in constant communication with the management and try to always be on top of anything that will help make our meeting time at the RSL an enjoyable experience.

 

Steve Bellamy, Janey Preston, Ann Barker and myself will be attending the Lets Grow Rotary into the Future Seminar this Sunday 10^th September. Hoping to get some fresh ideas about Re image, Re-invigorate and Renew our club and member numbers. Fortunate this is being held in Warrnambool, as Geelong is the only other venue it will be presented too.

 

Polio movie night went well. I will let Ann Barker announce our profit. Thanks to Ann for sticking with this project, we have been doing this for a number of years now and usually have a good following with many regulars attending to support this great cause, I did a bit of research and found that a single dose of Oral vaccine cost .33 cents Australian. That is 3 doses for a dollar, so for a $25 ticket that will vaccinate 75 children. Multiple that by the $2 for every $1we raise factor that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation contribute to Rotary International for Polio Plus, that the equates to 225 children vaccinated for that one $25 ticket. Now multiple that by how many we sold (less Theatre Costs).

 

That is a great contribution by Warrnambool Daybreak to the Polio Plus campaign for this year, Thank you to all who went and also contributed funds towards this program.

 

 

Our club is a traditional one that serves a small community in Maine. We’d traditionally held our biggest fundraiser – a flea market/auction – in August to take advantage both of the good weather and the summer tourist traffic. All year long, members collected gently used furniture and household items and stored them away in a barn built by the club specifically for that purpose. Then, the day before the sale, these items were sorted, hauled to the high school athletic field, priced and sold.

During the pandemic, the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club found a way to double the proceeds of its largest fundraiser AND use it to engage current members and attract new ones.
